08' 700 Dragon power loss.

My father in-law and I both have an 08' polaris 700 dragon 163" with 1200 miles. My sled doesn't seem to have any problems yet, but my father in-laws is having a power loss. I rode it and it seems to do it in almost any situation. While riding the sled acts almost as if it is shuting off, I watched the guages and nothing flickers or fades, thinking it could be an electrical problem. We changed the spark plugs and put a new belt on it thinking of the obvious. Track tension is in adjustment. We even pulled out the variable exhaust valves and cleaned and inspected. The sled just falls on its face and then will pick itself back up. We are at a dead end. Does anybody have any ideas or have had these problems themselves??? Thanks.

I had a problem with mine, it would bog at about 5700 rpms then come back alive , ended up being the hand warmers shorting out on the bars where the wires join the element , recall calls for black electric tape between the bars and element, hope this helps

Does it always fall on its face between 5000-6000 RPM or at any RPM ????

My 2007 D7 used to almost quit at around 5500 RPM, felt like I accidentally hit the kill switch, ended up being LEAN mid-range, fixed it with a PC-3 richened up 7-10% in the 5000-6000 R.P.M. range

Yes, I do seem to think it was around the 5000-6000 rpm range. He has had the hand warmer update done. Not sure how the dealer fixed the problem though. The sled doesn't seem to shut off per say but is almost the opposite of surging. Almost felt like a bad belt so I changed it with a brand new one from the dealer. He had this problem last year. The dealer said his air box was cracked so it was replaced. Seemed to fix the problem for a few rides but then came back and was intermitant. Now it happens everytime we ride. I did check the air box again tonight, didn't see any cracks or gaps where the air box meets the fuel injection housing. Thanks for the help so far to everyone that has commented.

Could it be a faulty exhaust pipe sensor? Or maybe a bad bellow on the exhaust valves. I'm sure you checked that when you cleaned them though.

:face-icon-small-con Well it looks like I have a few things to try this weekend. I will keep you posted coming this Monday. Thanks everyone.

If this helps you diagnose the problem, the "major flat spot" that occured at mid range was ONLY when I held it at part throttle, so try to see if thats the case with your sled

No, I still haven't figured it out. I tryed a few things and it still occurred. So we decided to take it to the local dealer. They adjusted the throttle cable and adjusted the sensor. They said the lefty throttle could be messing with the sensor because of adjustment. They also replaced the fuel filter. We rode it the next weekend after getting it back. Had no problems all day until our ride back to the trailer. Then it started again. It will not do it when you get on the throttle only when mid throttle. I decided to punch it to full throttle for 100 yards and after that couldnt get it to do it again for the rest of the ride back. Weird. I don't get it at all.

My best guess is it's LEAN at part throttle in the 5000-6000 R.P.M. range

PC-3 or PC-5 RICHENED up in the mid-range is the fix

I have the exaxt same sled. Mine is cutting out when i hold it to the pin 8000 rpm seems like it cuts out one cylinder i was told to replace exaust sensor? Is your engine light flashing?

i have an 09 600 with about 1800 miles that is doing the same thing. as i am pulling away it is like the engine stalls or misses and then it takes off again. it is almost like it isn't getting fuel and then it does get the fuel. could it be the computer for the injection system?? i had a low end bog at cooke city and when i changed my weights back i found the my clutch spring was busted. i replaced the spring and it ran fine that weekend. then this started. i am very interested in what you find out and if anyone has any ideas.

My 2007 D7T started doing this to me last weekend, then got really bad today. I believe the problem started when i somehow cut the hand warmer wire and it grounded out wich screwed up my VR. I unpluged my hand warmers and rode today. ran great for about an hour then would have a really boggy bottom end and would fall on its face intermittently, pretty much acted like all power was cut then would fire right back up. I would shut it off the start it back up and would run fine for another hour then do it again(no check engine lights or dimming of the insturment pannel). Stopped by the dealer they said almost 100% VR. which is what i had thought. Just hope i didnt hurt the ECM i will check tonight and see.

my 700 pulls good wot but when i let off to cruise at half throttle it gets boggy like you said sparatic throttle seems like it just runs good enough to hold steady speed I did have one bad hand warmer that I replaced . just got the sled dont have hardly any ride time so dont know much yet . Any sugestions would great .
