I had a customer that followed the forums(Dootalk, SW) and wanted the track swapped ASAP. I put a 162x16x2.5 CE on his sled, kept the Lite on my sled.
As the season wore on, I kept playing with suspension set-up and mounting locations(as well as clutching) while he kept adding HP.
Head, pipe, reeds, bored carbs and porting were all added. The more he read online, the more he was convinced the Lite was a horrible track.
Meanwhile I had a stock XRS with re-shaped heads for more compression, and a MBRP can. I wasn't less than 5ft from any highmark he put on the hill. It just pissed him off. No matter what he did, I just kept tweaking little things here and there, and he could never blow me out of the water like he wanted to.
I raised the front arm mount, and set the shocks front and rear, and did nothing else but clutch and gear the machine.
Could it have done better with a CE? Absolutely. The difference? He never once changed his suspension set-up. Never cranked his front springs, never set the torsion springs, never touched anything. Sure he clutched his sled to the power adders, but not once did he touch his suspension. And it showed.
Moral of the story, no matter what you do to your sled, powerwise, or trackwise, if it's not set-up properly, you'll have a helluva time making it better than a stock, well set-up unit. So whether you keep the Lite, or swap it out, you gotta remember that set-up is KING.
So yes it can work, but you'll have to play with your settings to find that sweet spot for yourself. Considering you are from CO, making the lugs a little softer won't hurt since I'm led to believe you guys have a lot drier snow than I would normally ride here in BC.
