07 vs. 11 M8 Drive Shaft

Will a drive shaft from an 07 M8 work on an 11 M8? The 07 had a different part number at one time but was replaced with the same part number as the later sleds. Anyone know what the difference is?

No. The short answer is, the Diamond Drive with mechanical reverse and the Diamond Drive with electronic reverse use different length shafts.

The drive shaft part numbers for the 2007 and 2011 are both 0702-880. The drive shaft assembly for the 2007 changed from 0728-164 to 0728-170 which is the same part number as the 2011. What's different with the drive shaft assembly? If they are different lengths why are they the same part number?

I'm changing to a 7 tooth driver for my X3 track and found some cheap drive shafts on Ebay from a 2007. Wanted to keep my 8 tooth driver setup so I can swap back to stock down the road. Easier than pressing the drivers on and off.

Are you positive on this? I believe the only difference in shafts is from 2005-2006 to the 2007-2011 shaft. They just started putting the bearing shield on the newer shaft. The case is the same on the 07 and 2011 except for where the reverse actuator is no longer used. I could be wrong though. Would be interesting to see the actual measurements on both.

OK, I did a little head scratching and came up with an answer. The 2005-2006 uses a different shaft than the 2007-2011. We use the 2005-2006 driveshaft on the 2007 and newer sleds when using the BDX drive. With the stock drive you are correct in that 2007-2011 models will use the same shaft and the part number does super cede to one uniform number.

Sorry for the confusion and I hope this helps.
