07 summit 800 - Sadness!

Ok folks - just bought sled (first time skidoo owner, longtime fan). It is totally dead on the low end has very slow throttle response. New 6 gal of no ethanol prem fuel on top of 1/4 tank of old fuel with stabil in it. Bone stock with only 500 mi. No comparison (sad to say) to bud"s 08 M8. what does this unit need?? Do SLP single pipes make a big difference? Any ideas? Help...

clutching is off. Make sure you have the updated bushing and spring cup and also make sure your rollers in secondary are good. After you do that get a Dyanmoe Joe clutch kit. I also here WinterBrew has a good kit, but I don't have any first hand knowledge of his kit.

Stabil is way over rated. Pull your float bowls and take a look. New gas with Sea Foam will help fuel contamination. Check your track tension and belt deflection.

Personally, I would just take mine to Big John and have him figure out what was wrong... but before I did that I would...

check compression on cylinders, clean the carbs, check the reeds.
also check belt and clutch.

If you just bought it. Take it back to dealer to get it running right, or talk to previous owner to get some insight.

Thanks guys for you thoughts. Took sled out again and seems to be a little better as old fuel gets burned through. Do love the ride and handling.....

Clutching is still definitely off as you say, Moondoo. will look into the dynamoe joe clutch.

Do the lightwieght cans help make it a little crisper? Do different breather boxes help? Also what brand of each of these are best?

What top RPM should this sled reach? This one is topped out at 7400-7500?

I appreciate any thoughts.

Your '07 should run 83-8400rpm. Don't bother with aftermarket stuff, your sled should absolutly RIP in stock form if everything is "right".
Common issues to check:
Primary and secondary clutch bushings and rollers.
Exhaust valves for function, any associated vacuum lines off or loose.
Proper clutch setup (too much weight for your altitude??)
Y-pipe bolts loose?
Since the sled was used, do a compression check just for peace of mind.

By chance does your headlight/taillight/speedo not work?? If not, there is a relay above/behind the secondary that is known to fail and also causes poor performance similar to what you describe. :beer;

I own 2 07 800r's, one a 144 and an X with a 159.
the 144 is totally stock except for a can, and the sled rips. good strong throttle response all the way, redlines around 8200.

the X same deal good throttle response, redline between 82-8300. these sleds pull well when runnin right:D

Doesn't sound like your problem is with bad gas, I never use any Stabalize in my fuel.

So what to check, carbs yeah, but if it starts well and isn't tryin to flood out on ya when ya get on it I'd look at a few other things first.

Clutch adjustment is a big deal, as is well maintained clutches. Take em off and service them and if there stock, read up on adjustment for proper RPM's. it's pretty simple stuff.

Also check yer RAVE valves for proper operation. If they're not funtioning right, power will suffer through out the band.

If both of the above check out, i'd follow thru with checkin out your carbs.

Reed valves, will usually make it a hard starter, especially when it is warm. then you'll notice it just doesn't run well at low and mid range, but when get above 1/3-1/2 throttle she'll fly.

Finally a can and y pipe is a nice addition will make it a bit more responsive. And if nothin else drops a good 10lbs off the front of your sled and gives you some more storage room.

Good Luck,
LA

you want the last 7 to 800 RPM's, makes a big difference:beer;

Update - Lovin this sled now! Finally got the clutching dialed...was the 1-6 adjustment deals on the primary. Finally put them at 5 and the things rips! You were right in that the last 1000 rpm make a big difference on the sled. also put a "silencer" that made it much louder but seemed to help. Thanks to all.
