07 Rev 800 Motor Locking up?!?!

Hey Guys,
I have a 2007 Rev 800r 144 bought in olympia washington at 220 miles.
I live in Whistler BC and put an MRBP Can from an 02 summit 800 that we custom adapted for the 07 . it now has 300 miles on it. last ride in Whistler the motor locked and stopped as I was ridding on the glacier.. tried electric start and it just clicked. To start it, I had to pull the pull start and electric start at the same time. a few minutes after starting it locked again. The primary clutch had 10 degrees play either way. Same trick and it started, we shut it off and the primary spun now but was pretty rough/inconsistant. I drove back down and it maxed at 7000 rpm making a boggy sound. a bit further down and it ripped up to 8300 and was great again.

Does ANYONE know what is going on?
pull start jam? tuned for olympia trails? to lean (even though they adjust them selves)? Oil Injection Problem? All the oil levels are good.

Thanks alot!
Jeff

crank bearing

these 07 800r's have crap motors. unless its been replaced by a R stamped case. the bearings were to tight in the case and they would expand. and the liquid cooled case wouldnt.

Alot of motors failed before 1000miles. unually just a few hundred. If you have warranty still, go ride the piss out of it. A matter of time to it seizes up...

Im not 100% but i'd say that its one of the center crank bearings.

Sorry man. I feel your pain. i have a 07 800R. 2600kms. and it scares me to ride it...

Origianl motor? Do you know if you have a 800R with the R stamped on it?

sounds like the crank is about to crap out. do a search alot of threads on it.

Time to tear into it a bit. I would do a quick compression test, pull the y-pipe and head if necessary and take a peek. Is it still under warranty? They are known for crank issues, mine broke a piston skirt that went through the case, got a '08 engine under warranty. No chronic issues with the '08's

Ya I'm worried it's the crank bearing...
As for warranty I bought in WA an imported it to BC, but the boarder didn't believe me that Washington doesn't issue Titles (Even thought my friend brought 2 in from WA), so right now it's still under the Washington Owner's name. From what I've heard Warranty is void we you import it but I havn't really so it Looks like I will have to drive down from Whistler BC to Burlington WA for Warranty.

I'll pull it apart to night and let you know how it looks. What should I look for? Can I get to the crank bearing?
Thanks for the Help... man 14 days of power hits tomorrow.... what timing.

Yep it's the crank bearing!!

My buddy blew up his 07 and he was under warrenty and got a new one that is bowned to blow up again lol the 07 motor was crap sorry to say you might as well go buy another sled? anything under 07 is better my 04 is great love it it's got 4000 mile's lol havint takin the motor apart yet but i may have to lol...

Thanks and good luck bro..

Ps the new motor's are great if you can get your hand's on an 08 your good to go...
Good luck and merry christmas all!:present:

Is there a way I can check to see if it is the crank bearing?
what should i pull apart and what do i look for?

Also, with the warranty... if it is the crank bearing do I get a new 08 Motor? or just a crank.....
do i have to go blow the motor to get one?

Yep, I second that :beer;
Have the dealer run the VIN. And hope the Warr is still good

warranty is good till Jan 28th... but I may have to bring it back to the US. does anyone know if it is the crank bearing will I get a new motor? or do i have to go out and blow it up tomorrow?

If you try to get it done in Canada, they will most likely void your warranty. I would take it to the US. They most likely will give you a new long block. If all else fails. Sea Doo clinic. About 800 for a rebuilt crank or a couple grand for a new long block. You should have the block machining checked as I believe the root cause of the 800r problems was that the case was undermachined and pinched the center bearings...

Left Cylinder is Cooked!

So... I pulled the heads off and My right cylinder is cooked! - The left is fine.

The piston is caked white, the barrel is scored and the head looks like it's been sand blasted.

What happened in there? Ring twisted? Jet Clogged? No oil on that side? The sled only has 400km.. does anyone know what caused this?

Thanks

Does anyone know? My friend who bought the mate to mine (only 20 less miles) took his heads off because his sled starting boggin at 7000rpm and... the SAME thing! the Right cylinder was white, had shrapnel scoring on the cylinder, barrel and head!!!!

I hope some one can help us!!! could it be because we rode with our carb heaters off or used old gas? or it's tuned for Olympia Washington Trails and we ride high elevation in Whistler, BC?

If the sled is tuned for lower elevation than you should be running very rich up high ... don't think that's your issue. Many a '07 800R issue though regarding bottom end crankshaft bearing/bearing seat machining tolerances but that's not what cooked your PTO side slug. Pre-ignition or detonation from the sounds of the damage, sight unseen. Fuel starved, bad fuel are both possible ... and if it was detonating, det sensor would cause ECM to retard into "safe-mode", which might explain the 7000rpm "bogging" you described on your friends machine.

800r

OK this my be a dumb question when you guys are talking about a 800r motor in the 07 are all motors the same in 07 800s or does it depend on what package you have? Im looking at a 07 800x with a 159 should i run away or am i ok . the sled has 1800 miles on it with all the clutch and secondary updates done . What do you think?

Well, correct me if I'm wrong... 07's all have sketchy motors with pretty majour flaws. 06 Had a solid motor. hopefully at 1800 miles the warrenties are sorted out, but some motors blow past that. I sort of wish i went for an 06 now. Make sure you grab the vin and call a dealer and check the history. Who you buy it off is pretty important to.. aks things like "how does it jump" or what has been replced or needs replacing soon... the vibe you get should let you know how it's been riden, if it's being dumped or what kinda trust you have. I too would like to know the difference between the R Stamped motor and the regular. The X package is sick, with the better suspesion and all..... but the big question you want to ask yourself is what type of riding will you be doing and how much powder you get because track length is key. 159 will climb anything, but if you like the trees and carving like turkey dinner go for a 151 or 144.. my buddies brings his spare 04 121 rev and it's a blast, you can wheelie and spin on a dime but he can't go near the deep stuff. What you pay is also important... my friend just bought 1 2007 Rev 800x 151 for 6500 with 200 miles for a ball park. I bought my 07 Rev 800r Adrenaline 144 with 220miles for 6000 in WA.
hope that helps. but really I don't know a whole lot just going off my experience.

Not all 07 800 had problems just the summit line up that had the 800r, the mxz and renegade used the old 800 Ho series and they were good motors.

my 07 was bought from a dealer over the line, mine let loose at 4600km, warentee covered everything. find a good dealer in the states that will cover you and run the piss out of it and you'll have somthing like this.

if you do it right like i did you get an extra year warrentee on the long block
