07 M1000 total top end rebuild?????

So I started my sled for the first time since it burned down at the end of last year. I had one cylinder re nicd, replace both pistons and replace the head. It started right up and seems to idle fine. I only let it idle for a few minutes. Now I just want to make sure it stays running. Is there anything I should watch for as I do the break in process in my garage? Do you guys pull and look at your plugs after a certain amount of time?
Thanks for your help. I know for a fact that I would have screwed up putting this together with out the help of some of you on snowest.

i'm remebering another thread i read about a sled blowing up 40min after a rebuild, seems he may of put the rings in wrong or something but guys were saying there was a pretty specific break in procedure like 3-5 warm up cool downs to get everything to seat properly.....trying to find that thread for you now....

If you messed with the oil pump connections/hoses bleed the lines or i let the arm hang at full open for a bit at idle. Premix the first tank if you played with the oil pump also or think their might be any air in the system... cheap insurance!

make sure you get all the air bled out of the antifreeze. i would heat cycle it at least 5-10 times, never hurts while its sitting in the garage. when you first get it on the snow ride it for maybe a mile and check your water level, sometimes no matter if you think you've got all the air out you still don't. like big hoe says figure out what caused it to burn down in the first place...

Why did it burn down?

One of the ring locating pins fell out and the ring twisted and caught the exhaust port taking a big chunk out of the piston and the cylinder. The other side had really bad detonation that I think was from bad gas but I am not sure.

is the sled box stock

When it burned down I had an SLP can on and that was it. I have put it back to box stock and am going to run it that way a couple times this year just to make sure its ok and then add the can and Y pipe and attitude box that I bought.

that shouldn't have looked like that even with bad gas on a stock sled. How many miles are on it and did you own it since new.

Its a good idea to lift the front of the sled so the skis are above the rear cooler. if you dont have a lift just run it onto a steep ramp like loading it just to let any air come up from the cooler. after that I will usually roll it on each side as far as possible. The AC break in procedure is a good idea to.

I bought it at the begining of last year. It had about 1900 miles when I bought it.

hi this is the guy that blew his up within 45 minutes. i was wondering if the previouse owner had rebuilt it once before you and didnt trust his work for it to look like that? The rings i know i put one on each piston on wrong because they fit tight i didnt know two stroke rings were dished like that so that is very important but to let you know it ran 100% fine on the initial warm up and i drove it about 200 yards and it would just seem like it turned the gas off on itself i could fire it up fine but it would barely pull itself and die again. i just got it running again today.

then take it to a dealer.

How many miles did you put on it.

I think the guy before you had it modded and sold you a f 'up sled. I burned mine down in a whole once and had to ride it out and it still had more power than a m8, the normal person never would know.

I would be concerned about the deto on one side. The exhaust temp probe looks a little crispy for a "stock" sled. I would do a compression check as soon as possible and verify fuel pressure too

I know it was briefly mentioned but I wouldn't go a second on a new top end without mixing oil in your first tank of gas, some guys even go two, like it was stated, it's very cheap insurance. Your sled will run doggy but at least your protecting your new investment.

What's with 07 M1000 rings spinning? I had the same thing happen and know of another. My other piston didn't look anything like yours. I rode it once before the summer and again 2 days ago and it seems to be good as new. As others have mentioned, cycle coolant and make sure you are getting oil. I held my oil pump rod full open for a couple short runs in the shop when I first put it together. Check and recheck you're not losing coolant anywhere and that you are using oil. Hope it works out for ya.
