07 m1000 not impressed what to do

i just bought an 07 m1000 and i''m not really that impressed with it. i rode my friends 09 m8 and power was similar and i climbed higher on his. the compression and pistons look great on mine. i have a sno stuff can and slp intake on it. it kinda hesitates and when climbin sometimes will bog and then wake up again and when you let off and get back into it it is really slow to respond. i like to boondock mostly but occasionally climb. what can i check or do to this thing so it'll empress me a little bit more. I'm coming from an 02 600 m cat so figured this thing would be nuts.

Lots of good info on tuning the bog. do you know what reflash it has? Performance, bump the compression, cutler or rkt secondary kit and jaws twins and venting. don't bother with the single game the twins are the only way to go! very very little loss on the bottom

a 09 m8 should beat the 07 m1000, Best thing you could do to start off with is put a powerclaw on it and a 09 rear tunnel. then it should keep up with the m8 and beat it when the snow is more setup. Then put the slp pipe set on it and it will wip the m8. what clutch does it have, what clutching to be exact. you may have to put the stock intake back on to get rid of the bog.

let me fix this for you

a 09 "piped" m8 should beat the "stock"07 m1000, Best thing you could do to start off with is put a powerclaw on it and a 09 rear tunnel. then it should keep up with the m8 and beat it when the snow is more setup. Clutching

Check the cam arm pivot bolts to ensure the weights are pivoting freely. I just went thru this on an 08 M1K. 2 of the 3 pivot bolts were sticking and mine was doing the exact same thing. Seems to me they machined the collar on the bolts too short and the nut snugs up against the "O" ring rather than bottoming out on the collar and still being clear of the "O" Rings.
I just took the stock nuts off the pivot bolts and installed nylock nuts and backed them off a little til the pivot bolts pivot freely.

No a stock 09 m8 will beat a stock 07 m1000 in soft snow when riding in the trees. My stock 09 m1000 would beat a slp setup 07 m1000.

What are running for clutching?

IMO if you have the stock track that can be a problem.

Assuming you have the proper clutching, and a reasonable track the M1000 should hand it to the m8.

It all comes down to getting the HP to the ground and getting it to hook up.

like mentioned above, also i would check the rollers in the secondary, if they are flat it will cause it to not shift right! This is a good sled, do some search on it and it will impress you! Good luck

m 1000

with a slow responding engine, the m1000 for boondocking reponds very well to gear ing it down, stock it haas drive train like an old cadilac...........power there some where but no stump puller and not hot off the line. If you intend to ride it over 100mph constantly then leave the gearing stock............and find a 1" track. Otherwise its best to convert this to a mtn sled and start with gearing........... the pclaw tracks suggestions is the next best other mod.

Got that.......ditch the miserable stock helix setup and get somethning adjustable and then adjust it for your riding.

what rpm is it pulling you may need to change weights so it can get up to 7850 to 7900 rpm then it will really pull had that might be the problem and it is the easyest to fix i would do that before i looked into doing anything else

The 1000 with a stock pipe needs to run in the 7200 to 7300 range NOT 7900

thanks for all the input. runnin around 7750 for rpms. sometimes hangs up at around 7400 gotta check the wights but rollers are good almost seems like fueling. thinkin it has the 07 flash but i'm not sure. also not sure if i wanna update it because the reading i have done some people don't like it. i was thinkin gearin and clutchin just wondering if anyone has a sweet setup they like. everything else seems to check out ok. also i have the four tower :( but the spyder seems to be okay.

boy 7750 sounds really high for a M1000. If all you have is an intake and can you need to get the RPM's down around 7400 max. I would think you are above the power curve at 7750.

are the 09 m10 completely different in there stock setup from the 07's. when you guys are talking about gearing and that, did cat make those changes already or are they the same sled just different years?

The 09 is same motor but a refined platform, and really a breakout year for cat.

The first thing you need to do is clutch for your elevation, you want the motor to pull in the 7300 rpm range. Check your belt deflection as well, you want the belt sticking up 1/16"-1/8" out of the top of the secondary.
After this is done, take it for a ride and see how you like it.

If you want to start modding the first thing you need to do is add the powerclaw track. This single mod will get you running with the 09 piped m8/09 m1k. The sky is the limit from here. If you want to gear it down, I've got a like new set of 57/63 gears with bearings that will drop right in. PM me if your interested.

I agree with much of what is said above..........track, gear, clutch.......

Just don't re-flash IMO. Put a fuel box on if you need to manipulate fuel curves. (IE installing head, porting, pipe (do all three if you do one) ))

They rip once set up!

for RPM, you're WAY TOO HIGH, WAY.

Jim (goliath) was thinking you had a pipe.

you want to be between 7200 & 7300. 7300-7350 down low, max. I set mine up so I'm at 7300 or so down low & when I crest the highest place we ride I'm at 7100.

Also worth a note, look at the torque. Between 72 & 73 you lose 5 ft-lbs, now look at 7100, you've lost .2 hp, but you're much closer to peak torque.

With the M1000 is it MUCH better to be under rpm than over, it falls off very fast.

the cheapest single mod you can do is through a y-pipe on it! you will pick up around 10hp with that alone! track is a good choice but a little bit of $$$$. Sky is the limit with these sleds just how much money you want to invest.

7900 rpms is your problem right no get the rpm down to 7300 and you will see a big difference!
