07 m1000 fuel pressure somthing to think about

I installed a fuel regulator before my ride yesterday I was running 46 psi stock. turned it down to 40 psi at 5000ft to clean the bottem end up. Drove to parking area at 6800ft checked fuel press. was down to 38psi rode to riding area 9000ft fuel press. down to 36psi. reset fuel press. back to 40 psi stayed there all day until I started back down in elev. it started to rise. Back home at 5000 ft I was up to 44psi. my boys m7 does the same thing seems like a change in elev. changes the fuel press. so I can see why their is such a veriance in fuel press. buddys m1000 08 stock fuel press. is 45.5 at same elev. 5000ft. so at what elev. is the 42psi standerd setting at

What gauge are you using?

If it's a liquid filled, you need to vent it to adjust for elevation changes. Seems likely that you're getting an incorrect reading on the gauge.

Same thing here on my 07 M1000

I had it set at 43psi at 1200' elevation. Went riding, notice my EGT's were high. Check fuel pressure at 4000' and it was down around 40psi. Kept a good eye on the temps and then checked the pressure again at 6100' and it was down to 38psi.

Currently I am running 55psi at 5000' just to keep it cooled down in the mid range 5800-6000.

But what is the deal with the fuel pressure. I know the spec is something like 42.7-47.8. But if you set it at 43 at 1200' you will burn down at 6000'.

I am interesed in what others are seeing. Thanks for posting this because I was just starting to think I had something wrong with my fuel pump. Still might....

This may be a dumb question, but I am goin to ask it anyways.

What are you guys using, or how are you getting these readings? Are you doing something with the speedo gauge to bring these reading up? or are you hooking a mechanical gauge to the fuel pressure and EGT? I would be curious to see what mine is running at as well...

I am running a bikeman gauge and I notice the same thing there are variaous readings at different altitudes that I ride.

Same here with my Cutler gauge. Loose about 3 pounds from my garage to the top of the mountain.

Is this just a problem on the 1000's cause I was thinkin about buying a regulator for my M8 but if its gonna be just as much hassle as a fuel controler, I may stay away.

my gauge is liquid filled I was thinking the same thing checked with my boy his is not Liquid filled I think the higer elev. change, lowers the fuel press. if you think about it most things dont work as well at higher elev. compared to sea level less oxygen. your engin looses h.p. you dont need as much fuel at 10,000 ft compared to sea level. I dont think the drop in fuel pressure at higer elev. is going to make you run lean just wondering if this is why everyones fuel press, seems to be different. need an airplane mechanic or sombody with some smarts in this area. to see if its the gauge or if the fuel press. does drop with elev.

The fuel pressure regulator is just a mechanical blow-off with a spring, so altitude should not affect it...? I'll try to keep track next time I ride high...
