07 m1000 clutch help /ecu update help

so i bought a stock 07 m1000 with rkt secondary,y-pipe,jaws can and a 2.5 174 track other than that stock.900 miles do i want the 3 post clutch or the 4 the things ive read say 3 (why).anything else i should do or be aware of it had an 08 update thats it should i get the 10 update .sorry if i sound stupid but its kinda new for me had alot of polaris stuff and still do.got a really good running kk but it beats me down when i keep up with all the new machines.thanks alot mike

Family had 3 07/m1000's......over 25,000 miles combined. 2 sleds had updates done. 1 sled kept original programing. The original program ripped day in day out, the other 2 burbed and farted there way thru 2 seasons before they were turboed. All sleds had not 1 single issue with the 4 post.

Agreed.

The 07 M10 was the best running of all the 1000's to date. This was mainly due to its programming...

After the "Update", they seem to lose performance and not just a little.

WHENEVER ANY manufacture wants to give you a programming "UPDATE" UNLESS you are experiencing issues DIRECTLY related to the update. NEVER DO IT! 99% of the time you will lose performance as a result of the update.. Especially true in the case of the 07 M10..

I much prefer the 4 tower primary over the 3 .. but the 4 will eventually break a spider.. You can either get the STM billet spider or switch to a 3 tower.. We find better performance with the 4 tower..

thanks

Yes, the head will work well with your current add-ons..You'll get much better cooling (read more HP) and a better combustion chamber design..
Still pull th erop and go.. You do not require any fuel control box until you add aftermarket exhausts.. In fact, the porting does not require a BD box either and really wakes them up..
However: with ANY fuel injected sled (BONE-ESTOCK OR MODIFIED).. There are ALWAYS gains to be had by getting the proper fuel curve installed.. So, the Boondocker box will always make your sled run better but only if it is adjusted correctly..which is quite easy to do..

because i have yet to see a failure can you please tell me what causes the 4 post to break. AND WHATS YOUR PREFFERENCE THE STM BILLET SPIDER OR GOING TO A 3 POST?
thanks

Why does the 4 post spider break??

Sevral reasons:

1) mis matching weights throwing the clutch out of balance
2) Poor casting quality
3) Thinner spider due to its design

I prefer the 4 tower over the 3.. so, the STM spider would be my choice.. Howver: I have never used the STM spider

Anyone running the STM Spider? I really like the feel of the 4 arm clutch. But had plans to install the 3 arm when it fails. But if the STM spider is a solid replacement I might do that instead. STM have a web site?

I run the Supreme Tool billet spider and clutch cover. (you must run both on the 4 post) The clutch works flawlessly. I too agree with Kelsey on the 4 post over the 3 post PLUS, I like the physics behind 4 weights doing the work instead of just 3.

I had over 1300 miles on my original setup and no cracks in the spider. (still have the original spider) but, I chose to change before I had a failure on the mountain. 1000 + miles on the STM billet pieces and nothing but smiles.

Another vote for do NOT update the ECU. I did both updates on my 07. The first one in Jan 07 was fine, but the next one made it run like CRAP and it never was the same.
