07 Dragon RPM Issues

Im about ready to throw a hand grenade in this thing. Im riding a 2007 Dragon 700 155 piped with and slp can with Nitrous and about 2400 miles. The Nitrous was added last year to overcome my fall off in RPMs. It starts our running great and if i start on a long pull for a good climb atfirst its running around 7600-7800 which id love to see higher, but as the pull gets longer out of nowhere it drops to about 6300/6500. Ive tried backing out and getting back in it and the rpms will climb slightly for a second then fall off again. Ive replaced the primary and im running 10-56 weights and secondary has been rebuilt. Im ashamed to say the belt is 2 seasons old. Could that be the cause of my problem or is it time to start rebuilding the top end?

pull the secondary back down and add 2 delrin washers and new springs in both primary and secondary, also check clutch alignments ,center to center distance and belt deflection, then add a new belt just for gp..then go out and ride it..after a couple of good climbs pop the cover and see how hot the clutches are..whichever one is hottest is the one that needs work..let us know what you find....

Sorry to hear about your issues. I have an 07 Dragon RMK and love it. I'm about 225 with gear and it takes me everywhere I want to go. I'm running an slp pipe also.

Three things I would try:
1. Side panel, foot well and shock tower venting. The belts tend to get hot in the IQ RMK chassis. If money is an issue, I'd do foot well and shock tower first.
2. Check exhaust valve bellows. Remove exhaust valve. Push valve in and hold finger over hole in front cover. If it doesn't remain open, you have a crack or tear and that effects rpm.
3. Put a delrin washer in team secondary. There are a lot of theories on how many washers to use and where to put them. You could do a search and get some more info. I chose to do what SLP told me and use one washer at each end of the secondary spring. This is supposed to help with spring bind.

I had a few issues in 07 and 08 with rpms falling and did these 3 things and haven't had an issue since.

Hope this helps,

Kale

Merc, post a detailed list of all changes you have made to try and correct this problem. It may not be a clutching issue at all. It could be something else like running out of fuel on a hard wot pull. Possibly a fuel filter, or a fuel pump crapping out and dropping pressure. If possible you need to only change one thing at a time until it is cured so you can pinpoint the culprit.

had secondary rebuilt added washers new spring. new primary with 56 gram weights. Because of milage and how gently it has been treated we are putting a top end in it the compression was a little low will see what that does this weekend.
