07 Dragon No Electrical Power however Engine Runs Awesome.

07 Dragon 700 stock. It started that whenever the gauges and lights flickered the engine would run like a trash often would not last for more than a few seconds before it would be normal. Eventually the gauges quit totally but the lights would attempt to turn on, sometimes they would flash or you could see the filaments starting to light up but never get there. Thought the voltage regulator was shot so bought a new one ($220 CDN) problem remained. When I pulled the relay on the main harness near the hood hinge the engine would run perfect, plug it back the engine would run like garbage. After doing this over and over eventually the engine just ran good all the time but still there was no lights and gauges. I have searched for any bad wires, unplugged hand warmers/kill switch/tail light, looked to see if the ECU was burned on the bottom (it wasn't) and checked the stator output by both myself and by the shop and it is good even tried one out of another sled no change. I am just lost now. I have taken the sled on a few rides like this and the engine runs amazing but still the lights, gauges or that flickering light/poorly running engine symptom have yet to come back. Anybody have any ideas? I don't want to start throwing parts (ie. ECU however if it was gone wouldn't the engine run poorly or not at all?) at it hoping something will work. The mechanic at Polaris was totally stumped when I told him about it lol. Let me know people any ideas welcomed.

i would stop running it until its fixed there must be a wire shorted somewhere maybe hand warmers under the grips ?

I would verify you have good chassis ground and run an extra ground wire from chassis ground location to the motor.

Next, I would check the chassis side of the stator with a quality multi-meter and verify the chassis relay is good. Maybe just replace the relay if you don't know how to test them. Try disconnecting all of the handlebar wiring connectors, brake light wiring, etc.

I have disconected all the hand warmers, thumb warmers and tail light. Checked the chassis ground and all appears well also tried hooking up an extra ground and still nothing. I grabbed a differnt relay and again nothing. Does the ecu send signal for the lights and guages to turn on? I have wirring diagram and there appears to be what i assume is a signal wire coming from the ecu to that problem relay.

Has to be one of the wires or connections to the hood. Or a ground wire is loose, did this before on a carbed sled though, was wiring from stator to rest of sled.

Turns out the ECU was failing to activate the chassis relay. Which is a good indication that the ECU has began to fail internally, which will probably lead to more destructive problems so I am going to replace it right away.
