07 800r won't start after summer storage

I have a 2007 800 xrs and I went to start it today, put new gas in completely drained tank then poored gas in the cylinders quite a few times but no go. it starts for a second then dies and keeps doing that. Fuel problem? Carb? Thanks

I would double check the DSS/tether, and the plugs to make sure they are not fouled. I have had both of these kick my butt during fall start up.

If you didn't drain the carbs you could have fuel that went bad and guncked up the needle/jet. If all you did was run it out of gas last summer there would still be some fuel left in your carbs. Did you plug your exhaust from mice to crawl in? I would take the carbs apart and clean them up along with some of the other suggestions plugs, tether, etc....

When i ran it out of gas it also had fuel stabilizer in it so that should have taken care of fuel gunk but I will check the tether.

You don't want to drain the tank for storage unless you can completely drain the system, carbs and all. The small amount of gas that is left will breakdown and leave a nice varnish film in the tank that will plug up everything. You are better to leave it full for summer. Plan on cleaning out the tank and carbs to get it to run again. Maybe even a new pump depending on how much crud you have amassed in the system. Most of the gas you buy now is pretty crappy and won't last over the summer even with stabilizer in it. I usually fill em full in the spring, and drain the gas out for winter and blend it into my pickup over a couple of tankfulls. This summer I left a couple of sleds out under the carport and somebody siphoned the fuel out for me.. The inside of the tanks were plain nasty with crud! Luckily I had shutoff petcocks installed and the carbs were clean and dry from being put away properly in the spring.
