07 800 xrs High Idle question

While riding lone butte (Wa) last weekend I noticed at the lower elevation my Idle was running about 3800, on start up it would sit about 1650 but after running for a few miles and stop to wait for people it would hang at 3800 ish. As we gained elevation and cooler temp it seemed to get better and not hang as high, there was another 07 ski doo 800 experiencing the same thing. One thought that idea that was offered was the altitude compensator, or possible cracked boot on the air box, I checked the plugs and they looked normal not too hot. ANy ideas would be helpful, thanks Erik

Could ice crystals or light powder getting in the air box and freezing the carbs up? Did you try the carb heaters? Same sleds, same conditions???

Mine has done that same thing regardless of elevation...every 800r that I have ever been around does that. I don't know the exact reason for it, but burp the choke and it comes right down. I guess after saying that, could be the DPM or stock carb settings...

Not sure what the dpm is, i'm a newbie so be patient, the other sled was 08, 800, it would only high idle after running when it r idled high i could shut down and restart and idle fine. Erik

The pilots might be too small, causing a lean condition in lower elevations. As you go up in elevation, less air, lean condition is less. Try adjusting your air screws and fuel screws richer, if it helps change pilot jets.

The sled is stock other than a pipe and a can, 1500 miles so i would assume the carb is all stock, i will attempt to get ahold of the previous owner and see if he has any info. Erik

Pilots jets might even be plugged up a bit. Vacum leak. Throttle cable freezing or sticking. Carbs out of sync. Bleeds in carb freezing(add isopropol to fuel)

Buddy of mine said ethanol fuel would be one thing to check, which i have been running, he suggested some ethanol traetment and run good gas, also recommended checking boots with starting fluid first. Sounds like a reasonible place to start. Erik

I've had an 06 800 renegade. And it did that from the day I bought it just burp the choke as said b4 and it come down I just got an 07 800 summit xrs and haven't rode it enough to see if it does it but the guy I bought it from said it does the same thing until it gets into the higher elevations
