I am considering a 2006 Summit X 1000 and will be new to Doo. Any issues or things to consider before purchasing?

This a great sled for people who knows how to ride and can handle the power:p .
I had issues with mine but now I have taken care of the probs that really was no biggies.
-One thing to look into when buying is see to that it has 07-mapping.
That will prevent for those plug issue they had earlier and increase performance.

-Increase your idle to 2-2200rpm:s, this will also prevent it from fouling plug.
The only time these days I've got plug issues is when starting my sled and without letting it warm up properly put in reverse or shut it off and start it up again.
It's a little bit sensitive to this but when knowing about it, no problem.

-See that your e-rave cables are properly adjusted.

-Get a clutch kit like the one DJ sells www.mxzx-revzone.com , helps keep your clutches cooler that will make belts last longer and really makes your sled come alive.

-Make sure when your closing left sidehood that it are properly closed so no beltdust or other obsticles can get in there ruin your engine and clog up your reeds.
Many puts some prefilter, made by some fine mesh, on the inner airbox to prevent this.
I myself have seen to that is properly sealed between outer and inner a-box when closing sidehood.

-Learn how to tune your clutches, because there's a lot of RAW power that wants to get to the ground.

-Remove the plastic, if it's not done, from "aluminium clutch cover", this cover will just make your clutches to warm.

-If it's the original battery, change it out.
A bad battery does strange things this to this sled like e-raves not function properly, hand and thumbwarmer stop working and other electrical probs.
I changed my original 3 amp batt to a 14Ah and those electrical gremlins poof, went away.

There are much things to do to make this great sled even better but learn after time.

There's some "break in period" for the DRIVER on some 100 miles or so to learn how to control this raw power heavy weight champion.

-One thing that helps with this weight thing everyones nagging about is get some wider skis.
Many on this kind of sled forums seem to like simmons gen2.
I widened my 05 original crappy skis inwards to keep it easy to lay down and handle in the deep pow and when sidehilling.
This is heavier than those smallblocks like 800 and requires a different way of riding.
You have to work WITH it and find the sleds balance, not wrestle it, because IT WILL turn out winner

What sled have you rode before?

If you want it here it is

I have a 05 spring only HMX-X with all of the updates, and it is a GREAT SLED even in stock condition. I have Nology plug amplifiers, Crank Shop twin pipes, BMP 41 cc heads and a few airbox mods done. I run a Boss TFI Gen3 tuner, and avgas mixed with premium, a Thundershift kit in the primary clutch, stock secondary.
Plans are a diamond drive, and a Xpert X skid

HIGHMARKS:
Awesome power
Awesome fuel economy - better than a carbed 600
Awesome suspension - with the rebuildable shocks
Awesome combo - if your used to heavy sleds with ALOT of balls

TUMBLES:
Early models had fuel pump issues (fixed by BRP winter of 05)
Early models gave peeps trouble with fouling plugs (mapping issues fixed)
Kinda heavy for anybody less than 190#
Hard on chains and gears - carry a spare always
Pre 06 factory skis were junk

I dont notice its a 162 until:
its stuck
you try to jump it
you get in the tight woods boondockin with a 800 rev

I cant say anything bad about my 1000. Its a badazz mofo. Point and go up and over or thru whatever is in the way. Many days in chest deep snow I can go where nobody else can get straight up thru the brush or whatever.
Its a friggin tractor with a bad attitude, and pisses everybody off that I ride with because it more than makes up for my deteriorating ability to ride...LOL

While I am a S-D diehard its good advice to remind you that these sleds are discontinued, so it may get hard to find parts in the future, and I am planning to go XP next year.:beer;:beer;

Thanks for the replies and advice. I think I will pass on this model due to issues and look at my next choice.

Here's a post from www.snowandmud.com

This weekend I rode a new summit 154", and My brother rode my 05 summit 1000 with a 151", and my cousin rode my 06 summit 600 with a 144". My first impressions were that the XP turned awesome, so little effort compared to the Rt it wasn't even funny, turned better than the 600. I loved having the electric start, I will never buy another sled with out it, trying to start the Rt after a long stuck was brutal. The XP and RT both had a can on it, but otherwise stock. I picked a hill earlier on saturday where no one had high marked in Video bowl,2-3 feet of fresh(owlshead, Sicamous) and I pulled 2 climbs on the XP, and then 2 pulls on the Rt. I started same spot and rode both as hard as I could in a fresh line and the RT pulled almost 1/3 higher. We then watched a Dragon 800 take several runs and he couldn't match the XP no matter which line he took, but he wasn't missing it by much. This was my first day ever riding the XP, and I'm used to the RT. So after riding for most of the day I came back and tried again and I matched the RT's original mark with the XP and then passed them both again with the RT but not by much. All in all, I loved the XP's nimble feel, good suspension, pulled nice, great sled. If they could make an XP with the power of the RT, it would be awesome.
