06 RMK 700 Chain Case Shaft Seals

Quick, and probably stupid question:

I'm working on replacing a chain case on a 06 RMK 700. I tore it down a week or two ago and was waiting on parts. Well I got the parts I was waiting on yesterday. I pressed the bearings into place in the new case for the jackshaft and driveshaft. I will pick up where I left off yesterday and be installing the shaft seals, except I can't remember the exact position of the seals when I took them out. I'm almost positive that the seals should be pressed in just until they are flush with the outside of the chain case, and not all the way in, up against the bearings. This will leave a roughly a 1/8" gap between the seal and the bearing. Am I correct in my thinking here? Someone guide me in my moment of stupidity!

I've only done a few of these, so I'm not the last word on this but I think your supposed to leave the gap in there. Helps keep a small pocket of oil to lube that seal. maybe you can throw the drive shaft in there to see where that seal sits on the ring.
