06 iq mod 600 clutching ?

I bought an 06 polaris mod motor from judnick and am looking for some help on clutching for grass drag racing and also sno x racing gearing help also thanks

What R's are you trying to spin?

As for a primary spring, I like the EPI gold. paired with a 62g belly buster weight in my 660ves IQr and my buddies 09 IQr 600, it engaged around 5g's and pulled HARD to 8300. My 660 VES only spun it 8100 but the 09 IQr trail jetted and running pump with a couple of gallons of race gas pulled 8300. For the 660ft snow drags, I like the 66-44-42 pitch on the twintrack Helix that comes stock. Also like the stock secondary spring. If you are trying to spin more R's, run 58 or 60g weights.

Edit: snoX gearing is 19-45 stock. Seems to work. I usually run something higher like 20-42 or whatever combo you have gears and chain for that gives you about 85mph mph top speed at max RPM. Also use the biggest gears and shortest chain possible, because the less the chain doglegs around the adjuster the better.

unfortunatly i really dont know. i couldn't get any good info about that stuff all i was told is to run 116 octane in it which i think is a little high but got the motor late in the year so for the two times out with it i ran 116 it pulled great out of the hole but would lay over i was using the stock 440 helix with black/red spring, almond/red and i will have to check the weights but i believe to lite and it would pull 8700 to 8900

pipes

What pipes are on the engine? LRM, Dmax, SLP, Crankshop, Flegey? Pipes are going to determine the RPM you need. It sounds like you need to dyno the engine and find out what the engine likes RPM wise and jetting wise. The LRM, Dmax and Crankshop pipes run 8300-10,000 RPM depending on application and porting layout. Most of the crankshops are 8500-8900, Dmax runs in that area and LRM favors high RPM and pretty radical porting.

Once you know the RPM and a general idea on jetting, then you can start trying different clutching setups and see what works for your application and sled.

I figured more than likely i would have to go on the dyno but thanks. I was told they are the polaris race dept pipes any idea of the rpm range?

I think they were 8300-8600 RPM, not 100% sure on that. The dyno is going to be the best bet for dialing it in. What is your intended use of the machine? Snocross, Hillcross, Mtn Riding? Only reason I ask is the Polaris mod pipes normally run small stingers that may pose an issue on long pulls at sea level. Where are you located?

Hey thanks for the info in located in the north west suburbs of Illinois basically sea level. generally going to use it for hillcross and a little ameture snocross and ripping around the local fields on a fress snow day. Is it possible to change the stingers and would it be worth it? thanks

and also what kinda issuses on long pulls burn down or lay over that kinda stuff?

Yes, some of the pipe styles layover on long pulls and some suffer from the burn down issue. The one that comes to mind is the IQR 800 SLP pipes, 29mm stingers for snocross, most go to 33mm for non racing use.

Pipes can be modified, I would recommend contacting a GOOD pipe builder/engine guy to do that work.
