06 apex 162

Apex out climbs and floats better than my 2002 polaris 800 151", but will not outclimb 2004 vertical escape 800 159". My polaris took a poo-- broke the crank(piece of junk). The Apex runs silky smooth, is very agile in the trees and easy to handle in powder. It is heavy, but when floating in powder, you do not notice the weight. Funnest sled I have ever ridden. I trust Yamaha not to brake down, and when you are 50 miles away from the truck, that is a good piece of mind.

King of the hill 'stock'---------------no-----
well engineered sled----------------yes----
Most potential for reliable mods------yes----

I put a stock Apex in the 800 cc 2 smoker class with 151 tracks.

Note: buy the HYJACKER and the "heavy when stuck" issue goes away.

Rode one for a few hours last winter. Much heavier thatn my 800RMK but has wonderful throttle response, a powerband that it wiiiiiiiiide and good trail manners. On harder conditions, it will climb as well as any 3-5 yr old 800's. In the fluffy, It weighs so much more that it won't get as high. I'd but one for the reliablilty, lack of oil, and the electric start. If you want to enjoy a day's riding and can discipline yourself that its not going where you would normally go on a lighter sled, then its the one. If you are the knd of rider that always pushes the limits, you won't be happy with it. My two cents.
