06 900 dragon

hey everyone so i have onther qustion and brain teaser for you all. i have a friend with an 06 900 dragon with a slp motor in it the problem is that when the engine is warm and you shut it off with the key it wont start back up right away it takes ablut 10 min of pulling it over befor it will start again but if you shut it of with the engine stop button i will pop right over on the first pull. and if sled is on a steep hill and you shut it off with the key the only way to start it back up is to dump some fuel strait into the cycilnder but again if you use the botton on a hill to shut it off it will start up with one pull. anyhelp would be great it dont make any sence to me it should matter i wouldnt think if you turn it off with the key or the switch i should still start up on one pull when it is warm.

I would try a new key switch. sounds like something isn't right inside of it. i believe that the sled will start with the key switch unplugged so that is something you can try. start it and shut it off with the key. then unplug the key switch and see if it starts

unplug the ignition from the harness. it starts up like mentioned by newfusion.

I replaced my ignition with a safety tether, if they are as easy to steal as just unplugging the ignition then why bother having it anyway. a tether should be standard equipment.

my sled went ghost rider into a tree last year, never again...

did anyone see x-games? a sled took off into the crowd and NARROWLY missed a bunch of people.

if you really want an ignition, and yours is bad, i think i have 2 of them.

so your thinking that it might be a short in the key switch somewhere not a fuel problem ill try that. cause it acts like u shut the fuel off an let it run out of the bowls of a carb, and then you have to keep pulling till you get fuel back in the bowls of the carbs, but it is fuel enjected so that dont make sence. do think that it could be loosen fuel presure when you use the key to shut it off maybe. im not realy familure with the fuel injection on them, im asuming you need to have a certant amout of fuel presure going to the injtectors but i dont realy know for sure.thanks again for your help.

on my 05 fusion it takes:
a. 1 pull to warm start
b. 3 pulls to cold start
c. 6/7 pulls to cold start with a fuel pressure problem due to fuel rail leak, fuel rail replacement, or fuel filter replacement

I have never had to pull any more than 7 times to start it.

If you want to rule out the fuel pressure, you could check it after shutting it off using the key or shut it off using the key and then apply voltage to the primer connection, then try and start it.

It could be something loose in the tank too, but that doesn't understand why it starts easy when killed with the button.

As for the comment about easy to steal, there are only 5 different key cuts for Polaris. If you look on your keys their are a series of dots 1 to 5 dots. 1 dot equals A 2 dots equals B etc... so anyone could go buy 5 keys and be able to start everyone's Polaris..So yes, pretty easy even without unplugging the switch...lol.

thats what we dont understand it taks 3 pulls to start it up when it is cold. it will start up all day long with one pull when it is warm as long as u use the botton to shut it off but if you use the key to shut it off when it is warm it takes like 10 min of pulling on the rope to get it to start up again. my friend that has the sled was going to unplug the key switch last night to see if that made a diff i havent herd yet if he tried that or not. he is to the poing where he is like what ever ill just use the botton and break off the key so no one eles that rides it will have that problem

no need to break the key, just unplug the switch. You can remove the switch all together if you want to. My turbo does something similar and I suspect it is a short in the key switch. I just turn the key on and to the electric start position then back and then it starts.

I had a failing key switch once too, had to fiddle with the key to get it to start. I cleaned it out with electrical cleaner as best I could, and it never gave me another problem.

hello again so im doing some more reserch on my buddy 06 900 dragon again for him. The engine was sent off to slp and had one of their kits put in it, not sure what all that includes, we do know it has an slp head slp pipe an can but that is all we know for sure. I do not know for sure if they do any porting, or if they do anything to the computer on them. What he want to know is if he should be mixing a little race fule, or avgas at certant elevation like below 6000 ft. Most of our rideing is from about 4000 to 9000 ft, the sled runs realy well with out doing any mix, but he was just wondering to be on the safe side, any help would be great thanks everyone.

with ANY 900 he SHOULD be mixing 1oz 2 smoke oil/1gallon of fuel....just to be on the safe side
