06 900 bottom end repair

Piston broke apart, parts got between crank counter weight and case and popped a hole in the case. So I am looking for a used case bottom. I have done top ends but this will be my first go at the bottom end. I have a couple of questions. Is the 05 and 06 case interchangeable and any recommendations on a good place to have the crank bearings replaced.

Thanks

from what I understand doing the bottom end yourself is not too difficult just to re seal the case halves and add new bearings and seals.

Interested in this also as I have a 2005 with a leaking center crank seal (oil bath)

Most mechanics say if you pull the engine to do the top end why not refresh the lower unit also. I considered having my crank balanced also

Not sure about the bottom end compatibility but I believe they are. Having said that, I just did my 05 and searched high and low to find a used one as Polaris discontinued them and I wasn't sure the 2006 would work....had I not found one, I would have been able to tell you for sure. Again, I'm pretty sure the 2006 will work...same crank, pistons, etc...only real difference is the number of injectors (extra ones on the jugs) and fuel pressure.

Wrt crank work, most people on here will probably recommend IndyDan...from what I've heard, you can't go wrong there. If you go this route, you will probably want to send your cases and clutch to have the whole thing machined/balanced....

I know that you can use 06 cylinders on an 05 crank if you get the injector plugs so I don't see why you couldn't use an 06 bottem end for your 05 cylinders.

Thanks guys for the Comments. I have the engine out now but have not split the case yet. I think I will go ahead and buy this 2005 one on ebay and hope it matches up when it arrives. It is cheap because it has a rub mark from where the crank separated. I am assuming I should be able to polish it out.

If it doesn't work a buddy of mine says he may be able to weld up the hole in mine.

I will know more about the crank condition once I get it out.
