06 800 OR 05 1000

i got a line on two sleds but having some trouble deciding. the 06 will be a couple bucks less but not enough to sway my decision.
i never owned one of the new ski-doo, any problems that are prone on either which would steer me toward the other??
miles are similar too striclty want some info on the reliabilty of each?
i under stand the stances and tarck length engine etc are both totally differnt too...

What you going to do with it? I have had both and the 1000 is a sweet runner if your a bigger guy and can handle the weight in the trees if not a great point and shoot sled. But the rev is alot funner in the trees and climbs ok. Both are better then the most as far as long life. I got rid of my 1000 with over 3500 miles on it and the only prob I had was the fuel pump but they were recalled for that. The rev only had little things here and there go wrong. Have had 860 kits on revs and friends with bikeman 1100 kits on the 1000 lots of aftermarket just up to the way you ride.

No question, 06 800

With out a doubt, go for the 06. There's a reason there's not many 1000s out there and that they were discontinued after a very short while. Many on snowest will tell you the 06 was the best ever made, as far as durability, handling, setup, and motor parts are very reasonable when comparing.
It does depend on what you want it for, but the 1000 is mainly good for one thing, whereas the 800 is good for everything.
Good Luck with your choice.

I love my 1000 but if I had the choice I would get the 06 800 if all things are equal.

You can't just take a 1000 out of the box and have them at there peak. They take some playing. If the 1000 is a better buy and lower miles and you like to mod your sled then get the 1000.

If setup correctly the 1000 is a Bad A$$ sled and tons of fun to ride... everywere. But you have to be willing to spend some time and a couple bucks to do it.

The 06 800 X is in my opinion the best out of the box sled out there. The everest is no slouch either.

I just weighed this exact option myself. Theres now an 06 800 X in the garage.

1000's are great, but they're heavy and temperamental. If you want a good reliable sled thats fun whether its steep and deep or spring conditions get the 800. If you're a fair weather rider and only go out in the deep or just wanna climb open faces a 1000 with a 162 will be a good sled, but be prepared to spend a few bucks and time to get it to being as good as the 800 is out of the box.

if your 6'3 220,,,, or larger,,,,, you would probably be a good contestent for the 1000..........:face-icon-small-con.....but if you are smaller then that,,, you will be a good sponsor for the 06 800. jmo

thanks for the repys. im 6' and 190-95. ive been reading about the 06 being a great year too and amd going to go for that one. the thoguht of 162 1000 screamin up the mountain still sounds tempting though.

Tom Warga has a very simple fix for ALL 1000's.
He is a siemens electrical engineer and the fix for ALLLLLL the elctric grmlins is as simple as 6 pieces of 10 gauge wire and 1 capacitor.

This was the basis for the defunct class action suit on the rt 1000..

look on dont talk under mach problems.. long thread with many thanks on it..

Gus

I have never heard of this and did a search, could you enlighten us? Or link to the thread?

Wireing does not address the over cooling and rthe ingestion of belt dust, but being a 1000 owner I would like to see any possible fixs.

Thanks

Ditto, I've heard a lot about the RT but that's a new one.
I have an 05 1000/162 and an 06 800/151. I like my RT but about half way into the day I usually kick my kid off the 800 and finish the day with her. Get to have my cake and eat it too :face-icon-small-hap...plus the 151 is a bit easier on my back

go with the 06 and the 860 bb. you'll end up with a lighter sled with the same hp.

You will not get the same arm stretching torque.
I've ridden several 800's modded, stock whatever, not even close to the torque of the big block.
The only reason I'd go to a smaller cc sled is, I'm gettin to be a less aggressive rider and in the tight trees or stucks the lighter sled would be nicer, and I would need to mod the 800 to try and get the torque close cause stock sucks.
Thing is you have to also throw $ at the 800 to get the power up, so what ever suits you, both are good sleds. :face-icon-small-coo

o6 800 forsure had an 05 rt 1000 put abunch of money in to it fox floats, boss seat, high elevation domes, can, cluth kit, 9" wheels and tryed to lighten it up, it still wasn't as fun as a rev.
