06 800 clutch issue

Just picked up an 06 Summit 800, first Ski-Doo I've ever owned so it's going to take some learning.

I'm used to a clutch engagement of something in the 3-4k Rpm range, this thing takes off right off of idle, almost like it's a direct drive setup. I assume there is an issue in the primary, I'm up to speed on the Polaris clutch's but what am I up against on this Doo?? Tried getting it off this morning, no such luck.... yet.

you will pry need a clutch puller for the primary. ive never had to use one on my sled, its always been easy to come off. im no expert at the rev clutching either. im having a bit if trouble myself with them. check your belt deflection, and it could be a broken or really wore out primary spring.

You don't have to pull the hole clutch off to service it. Just take the bolt off and the governor cup and movable sheave will come off. The non-movable sheave stay's on the crank shaft. There are so marks on all of the parts that must be lined up when you put it back together.I'm no expert, but they are every good clutch and easy to work on and adjust when you understand it a little in how it works.

nope! hes right you dont need to pull both sides of the sheave to service our primarys, but my uncles xrs was on there so tight we couldnt get it off to service it, so im sure there is ones that need a puller .

Hmmm.... the book doesn't show that I can service it on the machine. So, what about getting the spring out? Don't you need something to release the tension without getting whacked in the nose?

I feel like I'm starting to learn about sleds all over again..... I can do anything I want to my Poo's, but these are little different beast.

I've got the secondary tore apart right now, I think I'm going to have to get the right compressor to put it back together rather than my makeshift thing I used to get it apart, but everything seemed to check out fine in there, just real dirty.

Direct drive?....I have no doubt that the primary spring is broken and/or failed in tension.

To get the primary off watch this first and second video, these particular two vids pertain to that kind of TRA3 primary clutch
Joe's clutch vids on youtube

Great video, looks like I can actually go through the thing without having to pull the stationary off.

Need to wait for the proper tools though.

Thanks

It was the spring, got it all back together last night and it works like it should.

I'll send you an email DJ, interested to see what you have for a kit for this.

Thanks
