06' 600 SDI dies before going into reverse

Have a 2006 skidoo 600 SDI and it will die everytime i push the button in for reverse. It dies right at the time the engine is doing its stall time to go into reverse....then dies.... Any answers to this THANKS

I'll try that.... Thanks... Aslo i was reading and maybe i should check the battery to make sure it is fully charged, it sounds like this can do all kinds of weird things if it is not fully charged...Troy

That was the problem with mine. The battery can cause all sorts of problems when they are going out.

Also check your compression, if it is low it will stall the engine when going into reverse. Your idle could also be set to low. It should be at about 1600 rpm.

Here is the information from my 05 shop manual.

SYMPTOM RER (ROTAX ELECTRONIC REVERSE) DOES NOT WORK.
CONDITION NORMAL USE
1. Check idle speed.
a. Wrong idle speed.
Adjust according to specification (refer to TECHNICAL DATA).
2. Check spark plug.
a. Faulty spark plug.
Replace.
3. Check engine compression.
a. Too low engine compression; engine stalls when pushing RER button.
Rebuilt the engine.
4. Check drive belt height.
a. Wrong belt height.
Adjust according to specification (refer to DRIVE BELT).
5. Check carburetor synchronization and air screw adjustment.
a. Wrong adjustment.
Adjust according to specification (refer to TECHNICAL DATA) and read carburetor subsection.
6. Check switch electrical connections.
a. Bad electrical connections or damaged wires.
Clean or replace.
TEST/INSPECTION
7. Check ECM or MPEM.
a. Faulty ECM or MPEM.
Replace.

i replaced the battery it was only at 4volts... Aslo loosened belt a tiny bit but it is just a hair above clutch... Going to also check compression later tomorrow when i borrow a friends tool.... Is it suppose to be warm or cold during to process? I do know to have the throttle wide open during but does it matter on cold or warm? It is going into reverse as of now on the trailer but i thought it did earlier but would die later after it was riden awhile.. I'll let you guys now how it worked when we go out this week...Thanks for the help

I'll bet you will be ok. The battery on the sdi's is a huge factor. I take mine out every summer and keep it on a trickle charger and still replace it every other year, the tiny little buggers don't last long. I think it's the first and usually ends up being the last thing to check on an sdi.

Nah, it was the battery. Think about it, the engine has to die, then refire... when the engine dies what is running the fuel pumps, ecu, and injectors? So basicly once it pops over backwards it's too late there is no fuel to refire the motor.

My 1000 sdi has done this a couple times, just grab a new battery ( don't bother trying to save them once they get below 10v )

Hey guys thanhs for the HELP..... I did a few things, like replaced battery changed plugs and checkedthe belt...it was OK as for height and checked compression which was also OK at 120psi. Took it out finally this weekend and it seemed to work the times i had her try it. I believe it was probabley the battery, To all be safe out there
