06/600 rmk MFD display problems?

My display blanks out at times. Then comes on and works fine the rest of the day. Last time I went it would come on and the volts were flashing low.
Sometimes it comes back on when I touch the brakes or give it throttle.

After searching here this is what I have decided.

I'm guessing I have the infamous V/R problem.
Possibly a wire problem somewhere (handwarmers) shorting out.

Any other thoughts? Thanks....

Sounds like the voltage regulator. I'd swap it out before you loose your ECU.

Voltage regulator

Called 3 local dealers, none in stock. Cost $212.00
Have to order one.
Still going to check for some bare wires under the tank, seat, Handwarmers and next to the y-pipe.

Luckily, the carb'd 06-07's use a different style VR that doesn't fry the CDI when there is an issue like the CFI's doo.

As for the problem, the VR's failing can happen but isn't near as common as the CFI style. Defective VR, low engine idle, shorted handgrips or brake light as well as any wiring shorting to ground can cause this issue. Fusing these circuits should be a factory install IMO.

Good to hear, but why would one cost $212.00 like posted above? I remember replacing mine on a Gen II for like $40.00.

I have that same sled and have seen the same symptoms. What i do now is whenever I start it from cold i make sure the handwarmers are in the off position. ]It seems that if they are on when the sled is warming up at an idle it wakes up the electrical gremlins and causes the above symptoms. When I keep the handwarmers off until time to ride then i have not had any problems. YMMV.

I had a similar problem with my sled and come to find out a wire down in the clutch side was fraied and arching out. There is a wire bundle down there that would be good to check. Also check the main harness from the hood. Near the bumpers you might have melted a couple wires.
