05 switchback starting/ idle issue

05 900 switchback has a small issue when I start it cold, even semi cold

I start the sled, fires right up second pull, runs a second or two then slowly idles down and dies.
Pull rope again, fires right up, runs and idles up a bit and it's good from there.

* this is at cold start !

The sled will do this even when you have rode and stopped for a while, cooled down.

Any ideas? ( new fuel filter , fresh rebuild top to bottom including crank) sled did this to previous owner and he just lived with it.

Thanks

Not an issue IMO. Sounds like it's just losing the fuel pressure in the fuel line when sitting and needs restarted to rebuild the pressure

It's common. As long as the idle isn't erratic when it's running or doesn't start

Ok , that's great to know! It does idle nice when it runs ect
That's what it seemed like to me, like a carbed sled does when it need choke.

Thanks for the info, no one in my area runs these 900 sleds so it's hard to compare

Thanks again

Mine will do that if I let it sit for more than a few weeks without starting it. I've never worried about it since it doesn't do it when it's being run regularly. If yours is doing it while out on a ride, you may look into a new fuel pressure regulator, it may be bleeding off pressure too quickly and thus be hard to re-start.

The first 5 seconds of this video show what mine does when I let it sit for a month or so, but in this case, this was the initial startup after I did my top end rebuild, EXACT same reaction.

That is exactly what mine does. Mine will do this if u let it sit for a few hours and really cool down. If you touch the throttle on the first start it dies. But on second start it's good to go.

I will look into a regulator

05 regs you can still buy but the 06 116 psi regs you have to buy the entire pump kit. I gave a 06 reg away to someone..... ahem!!!! guido.... Bahahahahaha
