05 Switchback 600 NEW PRICE $3,000 OBO after Mar 9, Indianapolis
2005 Switchback 600 VES FOR SALE! (but only AFTER we finish one last UP trip that ends on March 9!)
$3,150 OBO. Located near Indianapolis, Indiana.
If you don’t beat me up too bad on price I might offer free delivery to Indiana, Illinois, western Ohio, southern Michigan, or even southern Wisconsin. Any farther than that and you’re mostly on your own. I’m pretty flexible…PM me and we’ll work something out…I might even do all end-of-season storage maintenance for you if you want.
Runs as good as it looks. In fact I just did a fast 200 mile day on it last week, and it worked perfectly. This is THE VERY LAST YEAR of the outstanding EDGE chassis Switchbacks. Was used as a high mileage touring machine with lots of mostly Canadian miles (mileage expected to be approx 7,600 by the time we’re done with this final trip), always serviced carefully, and never a problem. Fast and bullet-proof 600 Liberty variable exhaust motor, PERC reverse, mirrors, high windshield, center grab strap, handlebar hooks, heated grips and thumb warmers, adjustable ski stance, 144” track, dual carbide “side-hiller” Polaris skis, flat-slide carbs with several extra jets for your use if you are a re-jetter, rebuildable Ryde FX shocks at all 4 corners including an adjustable compression “clicker” remote reservoir on the rear track shock, red skid plate, owner’s manual and elevation clutching/jetting supplement, factory tool kit, PowerMadd oversized tool kit on the belt guard, spare belt (both belts in excellent condition), spare spark plugs. Never wrecked, always stored indoors and trailered in enclosed trailer, religiously greased and maintained, always run on ONLY Polaris VES Gold synthetic oil since new. Hyfax and wear bars are approx 50% worn but still totally serviceable and do not need replacement in my opinion. Skis and track are in excellent condition…they have some wear but much less than you’d expect from such mileage. It has zero torn or missing track lugs on the original 1.25” lug track, and the skis look like they have about 2,000 miles on them…but they have much more. This is proof of the easy riding and good conditions this sled has always seen. Mechanically I can think of absolutely NOTHING this machine needs to have replaced. Buy and ride! Indiana registration valid thru 2012, and Michigan trail sticker for 09 is on the windshield. Despite the mileage, I’d have every bit of faith to take this machine out on a 1,000+ mile cross country touring trip today…which is why it’s already loaded on the trailer, and my wife will be running it for one last trip in early March before we sell it. Rock solid stable, smooth, warm, comfortable, quiet, not a hint of darting, easy steering, and plenty of long-track off-trail capabilities. I really like the way this machine handles.
Enough of the good, here is a list of ALL the known flaws:
1. A very tiny tear and a few rub-spots on the rear sides of the seat from extensive saddlebag use (see pic)
2. One small crack in the hood at the right mirror mount about 2.5” long, very hard to see unless you look for it, and reinforced from the back side with a metal bracket and not even thinking about spreading any further (see pics)
3. Cracked taillamp lens, still works fine (see pic)
4. 6 holes drilled in the hood near the speedo, at one time the sled had an aftermarket EGT gauge installed here…the holes have all been filled with black plastic darts and it looks fine (see pic)
5. Y-pipe had 2 holes drilled in the past for exhaust probes for the EGT gauge. The holes have been welded up and do not affect exhaust function at all, but you’ll see the Y-pipe has 2 welded shut nipples for these probes. (forgot to take pic…has no impact on anything…a $20 used Y-pipe will replace it if appearances really bother you.)
6. Typical minor wear and tear scuffs and shallow scratches you might expect on a machine of this age…but it looks VERY, VERY GOOD for the mileage. High resolution pictures in the links below will speak for themselves.
Interested? Let me know via PM. I will be unavailable March 5 thru 9 because that’s when we’ll be out riding this sled and others in the Eastern UP (assuming they still have snow). I’d love to sell it ASAP after returning from that trip, so shoot me an offer and we’ll chat when I return. Gonna be near Seney/Newberry during those dates? I might even be able to meet you for a test ride while we’re there! But enjoyment of this vacation is far more important to me than chasing people around Michigan just to sell this sled…so please don’t be offended if I can’t flex much to try to set up a meeting. Of course the sled is very available for inspection at my home near Indianapolis most any time.
