05 summit keeps switching fwd to rev

The sled when started up if you hit the gas it switches to reverse.
Hit the gas again and back to fwd or it stalls.
The reverse button on the handle bars was replaced and made no difference.
A friend said that the rings were probably going. I guess to switch back and forth you need good pressure in your cylinders.

Sound right or any ideas?
The guy ran it for a few rides with the y-pipe bolts half off.

could the top end get cooked running with the y-pipe flopping around loose?

it is controlled by the mpem box ...check the electrical plugs to mpem... it should not shift above idle speed. that same switch engages the starter through the mpem when no rpm . all done in the mpem... how is your tach working? check the connections to the tach ect it may not be seeing proper rpm ect.

Same problem

I just had the same problem. my sled is in the shop now so I havn't heard back yet. I brought my sled home and put it in the garage before taking it in, when I fired it up the next day it seemed to be running fine? Now when I had this problem I was riding in -17F. My sled ran fine for the first hour or so, then I hit a jump and it went into reverse. I thought I accidently hit reverse (which I've done in the past). A short time later I came to an idle, hit the throttle and it shifted into reverse, I let off and it shifted forward. After that any time i idled it would shift foward and back, back and foward? The only way to keep it from shifting is to wait for it to shift foward and gun it without letting off the throttle or keep my rmps higher than norm.

Unplug one wire off the back of the RER switch [and make sure that it doesn't bounce back to make a connection] and see if it still does it.

my sled did this after washing it one day evidently got water somewhere i shouldnt have let it all dry out good and all was fine
