05 summit help..clutching..help

ok, ive done some searches but cant really find what im after, or just dont know what to search.

I bought an 05 summit 151 800, heres is my plan, we do 90% UP riding so its jump on the trail and head to the power lines, it seems like at 20 or 30 my motor is ballsout, but then she takes off like a bat out of hell, basicly i want the perfect backwood machine thats still trailable, is it possiable? If not i have a 05 summit for grabs, i had a crossfire, loved it but was afraid to put a 2 inch track on it, for fear of needing more motor and/or gearing to run it right. I want to turn it into a backcountry, but couldnt spend $10000

So do i need to change weights? Springs?

If so tell me what and where to get it, or tell me im a fool and sell the summit.

Let me add i dont think there is anything wrong with the sled, im sure it is the way its supposed to be, im just worried about trailablity!!

Thanks for the help guys!!

DJ Clutch kits with solve 80% of your problems. That summit should have 19/45 gearing but your better off checking as dealers set them up differently. Swap bar out. ANY different ski will work better than the silly skis thats on it. Vents. running board bracing or snow eliminators. More venting. HPS can and top that off with an 06 X seat for looks and function. This is where i would start Mloc.

The DJs gonna run you around 350-400 installed, http://www.a2dsledworks.com/ I would talk too this guy about some vents. Hes IQRIDR on the forums. Sway bar cost's nothing if youve got something too cut it with. HPs can 250. Snow eliminators 100. A good set of Pilot 6.9 skis cab be found for cheap and work great and are light weight compared too our stockers.

Hope this helps

OK, took it out this afternoon, runs great, dont have some of the worries i had before, im just not used to the ski doo power band and it has a can on it not used to the extra noise, its a lot different than the cat, it pulls good all the way thru, sway bar is out, has stock skis on it i have an extra set of powder pros i could put on it, but the stock ones didnt feel to bad, but im not in the pow right now so that might be a big differance, i think it is a x but all the stickers are removed, has a big x on the windsheild, has a real nice seat with less storage than a cat, never thought id see that.

Rear tail light, is it a ski doo bulb? It fits very loose in the housing, if i hold it tight it works, but do i replace the fitting or a different bulb, the bulb looks like a auto bulb.

Took off the 6 inch riser, and now just have the stock 6 inch rise bars on it, much better fit for me

X-2 on DJ's kit. i know next to nothing on clutches, put his in w/ some tips from him, and wow. nuff said. whats youe ele? did the dealer tell you about the qlickers bolts w/ the #1-6 on um? keep your belt deflection adj. up to snuff, and have fun. Hope you like the Doo:cool:

no have no idea about clickers.. what are they and where are they, right now i think the belts running deep, ive always kept mine about a eighth inch above clutch.. is that the same with these?

Now its prob a quarter down in the clutch

Deflection video
An engine bog from start at full throttle can be from poor belt deflection.
1-confirm what belt you have. The last 3 numbers should be either 166 or 377.
2-What is the belt width (application chart)

Yep follow Joe's advice.....he is the clutching master!!:D

I have the same sled......I ride at higher altitude so your weights and adjustments will vary, but to give you an idea.

800 Summit 151
elev. 6k-10k
gears- 19/45
Primary clutch-
Pur/Pur spring 160/320
14.5 grams weight (hollow pin)
running clicker 5
Secondary clutch
Stock purple spring
DJ's Summit Helix

Pulls solid all the way to 8100RPM and am very happy with the setup. You will be mostly the same except may try a 160/350 spring and some more weight this is just preference......your weight will likely be up in the 18 gram range. Good luck on tuning and learning your clutches.....its fun.:beer;:D

Just a regular bulb can be bought at any napa...etc.
If the bulb is loose, Then give the socket a little squeeze/crimp to make it tighter. Maybe the previous owner has changed the bulb and upon first removal had to fiddle with it (corrosion) and made the socket deformed slightly.
