05 rmk 900 injector tip damaged? help!

hey guys, I have a thread over on hcs aswell but I figured id try my luck over here too, I need to replace an injector in my 2005 rmk 900, It is shorting out and causing the engine to run only on the pto cylinder. When I hauled the engine and removed the injector, I found the tip of the injector to have a flat spot, like a scuff on the edge of it. Now, Iv read on hcs only briefly about someone having to shim the injector out so this don't happen, but I couldn't find any info on how to go about it.

So, does anyone know anything about shimming out an injector? also what causes the flat spot? im assuming contact with the cylinder? I was thinking a copper sealing washer from a brake line would do the trick, they come in many different sizes so im sure I can find a good fit and the copper shouldn't hurt the crank case and it would give me that extra little bit of clearance. But do anyone have any ideas? I have a new injector on the way but im weary about putting in if this could possibly happen again. Any help will be greatly appreciated guys, thanks

Do the 900's have the "green rubber washer" like the CFI-4 800 and 700 motors? Besides the o-ring there is a green washer that goes over the cylinder end of the injector, my 860 CFI-4 was missing them on the upper injectors since I bought it but still ran fine, I noticed when reinstalled with the new green washers that the upper injectors sit further out than they did before... if you are missing those washers it might make for less clearance.

no green washers on either if my 05 900's, just a rubber O ring on the injector, nothing inside the engine case.

I do not see why shimming the injector would hurt anything, moving the injector out of the combustion chamber back 1/16" inch is not going to hurt your two stroke "spray pattern"

no green washers on my injectors either, but I wonder can I use them there? If there on other engines they are probably my best bet. what year is your sled sledhed? Im going to look them up, maybe they will fit right on there.

im new to the polaris brand, so im a bit in the dark coming from arctic cat. How does the fuel make it to the cylinder, the injectors are in the crank case, I don't understand how the fuel gets on top of the piston to combust.

After just pulling my injectors and sending them off to witchhunter.com, Now I have an 06' 900 but I do have the Green gaskets/orings. I am new to polaris as well so I have no idea if they changed from 05 to 06 and cant help much with the combustion question.

If you have the time, may be worth sending them in and asking him about your problem, he really seems to know his stuff, on mine, the pigtails are epoxied on to the injectors so dont try to remove them. $22 per injector seems like good insurance.

sorry I cant be more helpful, good luck.

My 2006 has these "green rubber washers" well at least the originals were green. When I sent them out to witch hunter, they came back with new "black rubber washers" and new O-rings. They sent back the original green washers in the box when they sent my injectors back to me.

Had a hard time finding the part number, but found an older post here that had them
5436287 was the number I found and ordered

U can shim them easily. Just get a small oring, like the one behind the green rubber one. U can get similar at a hardware store.

Anyways; this is what we had to do the 975 big bore motors so move the injector back cause the size of the piston for clearance.

Just add the oring at the END of the injector. Just stick it in the hole and slide the injector in after to seal it up, secure the fuel rail and ur good.
