05 RMK 900 belly pan replacement?

ummm, yeah.... so I had a really good ride yesterday until it all went terribly wrong and that tree jumped out in front of me. It was a big tree. It broke my belly pan right where the top of the shock attaches to the chassis. How complicated is it to replace the belly pan on these? does everything have to come out?
I can probably splice it and rivet, but if it is not too much of a PITA I would rather just replace it.

The belly of these sleds is actually 3 pieces, a nose pan, and 2 fenders. It sounds to me like you damaged a fender. They are pretty straight forward to replace.
Fenders are about $170, and nose pan is about $80, lots of guys are going with the new narrow front end, you might find a deal on used plastic in here, or maybe consider this an opportunity to update your front end

Thanks for that great info. I didn't have a chance to take a close look yet and figured it would be like older sleds that I have had. This should make the job a whole lot easier. It was the right side fender that I broke and would like to replace so I will hunt around for a used one (maybe pick up a whole set just in case :o) and worst case I can swallow the $170 pill for a new one.

Dan-

I have seen numerous threads on many sites regarding updating the old wide front end of IQ sleds to the 09 and newer narrow front end with alum bumper. I know the polaris part number is PN: 2876986.

My question is this: Can this be done to a 2006 Switchback 600HO ot not?

?

Yes, it can.

Ok, good, I was wondering because I saw this snippit that came from Polaris on another site, and I was wondering why they did not list the 2006 in it:

UPGRADE,09 PLASTIC/BUMPER
Kit PN 2876986
Application:
Polaris Snowmobiles 2007 600 RMK, Dragon RMK & 700 Cleanfire Dragon, 2008 RMK’s, 600, 700 Switchbacks, & 600, 700, 800 IQ’s, 2009 600, 800 Switchbacks, & 600, 800 IQ’s

I think maybe the 2006 is not included on the applicable sled list because you have to remove the front cooler, and they don't want to assume that you will know how to do that or something. As long as the frames, the sidepanels and the consoles are the same between the 2006 Switchback and the 2007 and newer sleds, then I should be ok, I just wasn't sure. Thanks Z-man!

Do you agree with this assessment Dan?

I have an '06 Fusion 900 and think the plastics were the same as rmk's. I have a broken left fender and wondering how to take it off and replace it. Buddy has a spare body and hoping the fender is in good shape. Wondering how do I take off the front bumper? Does it have to come off? If not how do I go about taking it off and what size and type of rivets use and how many to put it back together? Online microfiche doesn't do these fenders good.

EDIT- Figured out how to get the fender and the bumper off. Couldn't believe the bumper was only on by 5 little bolts. Wonder how mine has stayed on all this time. Oh well, flatlander and haven't really had to use it.
