Anybody else had problems with their steering post snapping off just below the tank?

Mine did, Best day of riding EVER! Nothing like being towed up & over the Mtns back to the lodge
. After looking at the snap point, it looked like it was failing long before it broke. I bought the sled from a big guy and I'm no slouch either so I'd guess that our weight had something to do with it. I repaired mine by welding a milling down steel shaft into the post. I hope reinforcing the week point. No problems so far.

My only concern is that its the steering and I'm just lucky it happened on the lake.
Happened to a buddy on an 06 m7. Snapped off right at the cowling. We were able to rig a couple tie downs to his skis and he was able to steer a bit and still operate the throttle with the bars down in his lap. He was able to ride it out thru the hills, it was pretty funny to watch.

No problems - its quite stronger than stock with the 8" steel shaft inside the post. You can upgrade to various posts or do the cheep route like me. Also getting the steering post out to replace it is not a walk in the park.
I broke mine off last ride of the year last year right below the gusset on top. Replaced it with a chromoly one from fabcraft. I had to take the bearing apart on the bottom to grind the bolt head a little more so that it was not binding when tightened down.

broke mine of this year right below the guset and had a 4 inch round by 4 feet log through my ski loops tied tight on my other m7 bumper with the bars in my hand interesting ride out but it did the trick, brought my steering post to a fabracater and got a 7 inch steel stock put inside my broken post and welded up so far so good.
mine broke just above the bracket under the gas tank cowling i took it out on the trail and left my sled. pretty easy to pull i welded it up and took it back up works great now. it was already cracked for a while before it broke ide check it before riding it you buy one.
What a pain to change!!!
I had an 05 M7 and had the recall done for faulty steering post. I don't know 100% whether its the same problem, but it might be worth it if you haven't looked.
