05 likes to die on me

Rode a few weeks ago and my 05 summit just killed on me like there was no power and before it came to a stop she came to life again and I was off.
Coming back down almost in the same spot she did it again:confused:

Yesterday went up and she started doing it a lot, just die usually after I let off the throttle and would come back before I completely stopped.
Almost made it back and she totally died and couldn't get her to fire up, had to hike it 4 miles back to the truck.
I checked the DESS connection, checked the connection on the wiring harness under the console. I did move my switches from the bars to the console but everything seems to be working fine.
I have a Digatron and it comes on after the 1st pull so that tells me I'm getting juice off the VR BUT I don't think I'm getting any spark off the plugs.

I don't think it's a gas thing since I'd smell gas when trying to get it going again but I did drill out the breather so not to get air lock anymore.

I'm almost wondering if it's the DPM since I seem to be around the same elevation or maybe it's just coincidence.

Mine was doing the same thing.
I took out the mpem, dried it out well, and plugged it back in with dielectric grease jammed inside.
Was it snowing, or raining hard? What happens is that the headlight melts sthe snow on the hood and it drips on the module plugs and causes a short, or malfunction.

I removed my headlight partly for that reason.
And actually everytime I'm in the POW it's fine, this seems to always happen on the trail.

It couldn't be my ignition coil could it??

I moved my controls also. I looked under there last night and I had one wire melting some others and arcing off the steering column. Im glad I found it now. It would hiccup now and then on a wfo climb. Was making my Avenger act goofy as well.

I was thinking ignition coil as possible cause. Old bike of mine had a broken wire in the ignition coil, when it would heat up the wire would expand and gap would increase to the point that it lost continuity, then when it was cool it would run great, but hard to say since it happens so quick from running to not running and back again, I would think MPEM like Marcuso said.

Cutting out

Check all DPM hose connections (with the air box off). Our 05 lost power on one cylinder and the hose was almost off.

I had one at the house that didnt want to start and when it did ran like crap, reed boots were toast

Mjne died on the trail lots too, but it was snowing, or turning to rain on the trail. Try one thing at a time, and find out I guess, do the most suspect thing first.

It could be your ststor also. I had a dirt bike that would cut out when it got rode for a while...

Check the MPEM connection like Cuso said for moisture. My 04 would not start after I had been riding for awhile and it ended up being corrosion on the MPEM pins.
Take a pencil eraser and clean the pins in the MPEM careful not to bend them. Then reassemble with dielectric grease.

I had the same issues you are having. Would die then no spark. I also had moisure get into the reverse switch that would kill the motor anytime I let it idle down.

DB

Hmm the reverse switch, I moved my reverse down to the console and it is now a little more exposed with connectors.

I'll finally be able to get out tonight and I'll go through the MPEM and I'll tape up all my connections to eliminate them getting moisture on them.

Thanks guys, I just hope it's not the stator or ignition coil...wife won't let me spend ANY more money on this thing this year.
