05 900 pre season check need some help

OK so, I purchased my 05 900 50th fusion at the start of last season, and well had how you can say a rough year......replaced both pistons one cylinder and had to send the stator away to get fixed. All in all it was an expensive season and not alot of riding :(

So with this season fast approaching i want to take the time to go over it and make sure its ready for this season. Other then the normal sled stuff replacing bearings in the the wheels and sliders and such, what other special "900" fusion things should i be looking at??

I was reading the jackshaft bearing posting can i not grease these? also what about the TPS?? SHuold i be checking that out with building my own tester.....any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I would check the tps settings, check all the coolant hoses for condition, inspect the throttle body boots for cracks, check the oiler cable and i recommend replaceing with fatboyfrenchy's cable pretty much a must do for the 900.
inspect all your engine mounts and replace the 4 bolts that hold the front motor mount crossmember in place with grade 8 bolts. check replace fuel filter -- i personally replace mine every year but you should do it ever 2 years for sure.

you can grease the lower bearing on the drive shaft but the bearing on the jack shaft is not greaseable

also clean and inspect your clutches, set belt clearance on primary and check torque on primary torque to 96ftlbs. that should cover most of it.

oil cable was changed in the middle of last season so that is good to go.

Was looking at the TPS stuff, seems difficult is it hard or am I just reading into it too much.

Are there any diagrams of the 4 bolts you are talking about?? I have the updated mounts already but if this is something different i want to keep ontop of all this stuff.

Also what do you use to clean the clutches?? Never had a sled that i had to really look into the clutching that much so this is pretty new to me

thanks

Soap and hot water is the best from what I have heard. If for any reason you plan to pull the primary, just throw it in the dishwasher.....:beer;

The bolts he is referring to in the motor plate are the ones that bolt the motor plate to the frame... 2 in each side hidden by the plastic from the shocktower and a lot of caulking, lol.... Those are easy to replace and cheap peace of mind.:beer;

here is a diagram showing the bolts

I just popped the dirtshield off the jackshaft bearing on the clutch side, and repacked it with grease. The shield came off without an effort. Just becareful not to bend it. Is anybody else doing this??

Mac..honestly..i dont think you did much here by packing grease in there..the bearing is sealed, and the grease wont be able to get inside the bearing...

i just replaced the bearing on mine..it was supid easy..took a whole..10mins..maybe..look on here for the post..it was about 5 days ago..

Para..everything stated above..and while your replacing bolts..replace the rear motort mount bolts as well..and if you yank the motor, the front mount bolts too..

check ALL your wiring for chaffing, and your coolant hoses for chaffing too..my attaor wires were rubbing the bulkhead and 1 wire was hanging out of the insulation..and the rear coolant hose from water pump to coolant bottle was alsmot rubbed through as well..

change you fuel filter if you dont know when it was done last..change your chaincase oil at least once a season..

replace your primary AND secondary clutch springs...they will sack out over time..

check your bellows in the exhaust valves and change your gaskets, as well as your y-pipe gaskets...always a safe bet to add some springs to your pipe and can (2 springs on each tab)

and heat tape everything ;)

wow, pull the motor??? really....i have the compfusion mounts and have the updated spacers just havent changed the spacers yet...pulling to motor sounds difficult to do....

They are not as bad as the Cats for going out. I replaced mine at 3700 miles but they didn't need to be.

Where are you located?

KSH

no you do not NEED to yank the motor..its a GREAT way to learn your sled though..butif you do not feel confident..that is what will cause problems..some guys jump in there and start yanking wiring, bolts ect and break things..

just do what looks bad, worn, or ifyou dont think it has been attended to recently..

when you say "spacers" you talking about the PTO side updated spacer from polaris? or you talking about the urethane pucks for the compfusion mounts?

if you need help let me know..i can walk you through it pretty good, or just talk your time and dont rush anything...and MARK everything the first time..

correct..they are not mandatory..but they are extremely cheap insurance..its only $18 for the jackshaft bearing and a measily 30 min job..

yes sorry i ment the pucks from compfusion.

I am located in ont canada,

I changed the fuel filter just before the season ended, so that should be good to go. But i will for sure look at some of these other points mentioned here. Once i get it here and out of storage i will decide abou pull the motor or not i guess.....
