'05 800X handlebar/track extension ?'s

I have an '05 Summit 800 H.O X package. 2,000 miles and been a great motor (upgraded the piston/rings after unfortunate incident in 2007), can't afford an upgrade at this point in life. 2 questions: can you fit a 10 inch riser on the handlebars without extending anything (came standard with an 8 inch). And two, I'm thinking of stretching the 'ol girl out to a 159" and am wondering if I can leave the rear heat exchanger in the current position or if I need to move it back with a tunnel extension kit (I run HRP scratchers to help cooling)? I like my 144, but I drove a 159 a few weeks ago, and WOW, what a difference. Night and day. The 144 is still a great all around track, but I think the 159 would keep some "peace" amongst some of my buddies out west if they don't have to come back to assist me :D Love to hear from anyone that has gone from 144 to 159 and see if anymore is involved after a tunnel/skid/track extension and gearing change.

Thanks guys

I had the exact same sled and did the same thing you want to do. I streched a 05 600 to a 159 x 2 and i had to gear that one down to a 19 top i believe. i stretched a 800 to a 159 but i used a 2 1/4 track and had to use some 07 8 tooth drivers, and the gearing was fine. Heat exchangers stay where they are with the SLP Tunnel kit and both sleds were awsome. Still kicking myself for selling the 800, it was awsome! But XP's rock too! Good luck, you'll love the results!

Thanxs brother, just what I was hoping to hear!!! I dropped my '99 Formula III 600 down one tooth, and what a difference, she takes off liked a raped ape now!!! I got a good deal on a tunnel/rail/track extension to go to a 159". I was kinda worried about the 159" conversion (especially the heat exchanger) though I really like the 2 1/4" lug height. It's hard to justify the $8,000 for a used XP when for about $700 I can crank my current ride up to the same standards, and still have boat-loads of fun with my buddy's!!! Thank you for your your honest advice, I appreciate it dude!!!!!
