05 700 broken crank

So after I lost my crank on my 800 last year I rebuilt it and sold it, figured I didn't want to deal with any more broken cranks. I replaced it with a 05 700 so I could have some peace of mind. I really didn't see that big of loss in power, had it all dialed in, thought I made the right move. Well today I just towed it out with a broken crank, haven't opened it up to see where it broke yet, my guess would be the pin sheared. So all of you who think the 700 is a bullet proof motor and does not brake cranks.......your wrong they all break cranks. I hope you guys are having better luck this year than me.

Sorry to hear. That's a bummer.

I've never heard anyone say that the 700 doesn't break cranks. It just breaks them slower. 4-5000 miles is average. Yes, there are exceptions.

The 800's break them at about a 70% rate at around 2500 miles, which makes used machines with the original crank about worthless.

You can thank Polaris for finally acknowledging the problem, and still refusing to correct their mistakes.

Well this one only had about 2000 miles on it. I'm gonna get it torn down tomorrow. I was told by prior owner that it was ported, and had wiseco pistons in it, wont mention shop who he had do it cause I like those guys. I think that maybe when they opened the case to do the porting they didn't get the tolerances back together just right but who really knows why these things break. Guess I will see tomorrow if this thing was really ported.

Looks like the PTO end twisted off, not happy! Polaris no longer makes PTO ends for the 700 and no after market for the 700 cranks. So there is less failure on 700 cranks but you get screwed when they do break cause you can't get parts. If I would have know that I would have stuck with my 800, at least you can get parts when the 800 breaks. The question is do 700's really last longer than the 800 cranks or is it just because there were less 700's sold so there are less reports? looks like I'm going to buy a used crank off ebay and have it rebuilt cause mine is junk, unless any of you have a good 700 PTO end laying around for me.

Here are some pics of my PTO end that broke off.

Any tips on how to get this clutch off? The puller just goes all the way through with nothing to push against to press the clutch off. This rebuild is getting fun!
