05 1000 over oiling

my sled was using up to 5 l of oil to 40 l of fuel by the end of the season ! It looks like the arm on the pump is not returning all the way , could it b a broken return spring ? how do i acess the pump and cable? Do i take the throttle bodys off with the airbox ? the box doesn`t have much room to come off by itself ??? Any help would be appreciated

The airbox comes out in 3 pieces. Then remove fuel rail and injectors and pull the throttle bodies. Then remove the throttle body boots. If you have small hands then you can get to the oil pump and check it out. I would check your cable adjustment before you dig too deep though. The 1000's like a little extra oil to keep the crank in them.

ok the box coming out in three pieces makes sense now . i think i ll change out the cables anyway and look a little closer at the oil pump .i ve heard a little extra oil doesn t hurt like you say but it runs real rich , plugs are always black. Thanx for the tip on the box !

Check your oil cable adjustment, but speaking from experience you'll probably need a new cable. The wires tend to fray where they exit the sheathing at the pump and stick. Might want to seriously consider chucking that air box and getting some pod filters while your in there. This motors infamous for sucking belt debri through the stock box....
