05 1000 losing fuel/ power

Need some advice, or some tips of what to look for...

I have an 05 1000, and it is really slow. The RPM's/power pick up on the very top end (6500~ +), but it will not even pull the front skis off the ground?? I know these are deemed as a 'tractor', but there is no way it should be this slow.

Also, I had it out trying to tune my Boss TFI on Sunday, and it used over 1/2 tank of fuel in about 20 minutes... Even if I was riding it hard, there is no way I should have even come close to dumping that much.

Thoughts/suggestions/advice on how to drop it off a cliff?

I had a lot of help from a member on here with the TFI... I ended up turning all settings to the 'off' position, but it actually ran worse under those settings??

I guess I could remove it, but I am wondering what else could cause that much fuel loss without the power there either? Lost Compression?

Hopefully I don't need a rebuild coming soon, cause I am supposed to pull a totaled sled this weekend!

I am in the proccess of puttin in the motor with a new top end, Now the last time i rode this thing it was clatterin like a diesel and smokin like a frieght train, and only oullin 6000 rpms on the trail, Upon further inspection I only had half my piston skirt left on the pto side the mag side still looked new/slightly used. Hope your problem isn't the same.

How many miles do you have on it, and how lean did you go with your box. are you runnin twin pipes, and how long did you hold the button???

2200 miles, didn't run lean with it, stock pipe, but the button was used! It wasn't smoking at all, and I can get it up into the high 7's on RPMs, it just is sluggish in my opinion. Also, the gas usage concerns me...

An injector stuck open? or a problem with the computer keeping the injectors open? There is a pretty good thread on dootalk about the battery and problems that a bad battery causes. Check your battery. S/be 12.8-12.5 volts engine off. And should not drop below 12.5 when you push the start/rer button(kill switch to off). Also check grounding on the TFI box. You should read the whole thread. 'Mach Z Inconsistencies, Where to look?' In the Mach Z section. Do a search and you should find it. Posted by BlueMax. Very good info for all 1000 owners.

Will do... Thanks for the help. The previous owner and I had it out right befor I bought it, and it ran across the field with the skis in the air... I am just wondering what would cause this much of a difference in performance, when all I did was unload it at an elevation difference of about 800ft???
