04 Rev 800 HO climbing idle

Hey guys got a little problem. I fired my sled up today and pulled it out to let it warm up and so I could do a few other nick nacks. lol I noticed it was idleing high right away and figured ehh its cold. 5 minutes went by still holdin steady at 3000 RPMs. Shut it off and started it back up; it idled fine for like 10sec and then climbed slowly back up to 3000 RPMs or so put the choke on for giggles it brought it right down but then started to choke out.. Checked the carb boots, one of them has a little bit of weather checkin on it, but the other looks fine. Sprayed some throttle body cleaner (all I had lol) on them, no noticeable change in idle... thoughts???? help asap lol the snow's melting fast!:hurt:
P.S im down around sea level..
Thanks Guys

you have a air leak somewhere when you need to add fuel to lower the idle...

my first guess would be the carb boots... but you said you checked them.

also your intake mite not be on rite. (thinking you checked that)

Well I sprayed the intake boots with throttle body cleaner.. thats all I had layin around. If that makes a diffrence, i dont know lol. As far as checking to see if the intake is on right? how do i do that?

Intakes on fine. has a little bit of play but i asume thats noramal. should I start lookin at the head gasket? pull the intake boots off? need help and direction im new.. haha to sleds atleast

I had creaping idle / leaky boots and the only way I found the leak was by pulling the boots off entirely. The delam was on the bottom where I would never had seen without pulling them entirely.

good luck

Spray carb cleaner or starting fluid on the crank seal behind the clutch, if your RPM goes up or down when you do this the seal is out

high idle

I had the same high idle and noticed one boot from carb to reed cage was loose. Found out that clamp bolt had stripped out. Replaced clamp, made her good and tight, idles normal again.

Exactly. If they are weather checked you need to pull them off and move them around. Your going to find a leak. Time to replace them,

If not the boots then check for plugged pilot jets and/or cracked Y-pipe. Do you ride at altitude? If so your idle will be higher at sea level but shouldn't be that high.

Have FUN!

Thanks for all the help guys! Yeah I live at sea level and the snow parks are usually right around 4500ft or so around here depending on where you are. And it is idleing right at 3000-3100 rpms at sea level. Its weird because it'll idle pritty normal when it first lights off and climb from there and will just stop and sit at 3000. Was thinking about riding it once and seeing what happens but decieded its not worth risking a motor. Gonna tear the boots off and send em back to Moto Tassinari to start with. SNOWS comin!!
