03 with spark only sometimes?

Ive been ready for an upgrade for a wile now. Ive been ridin an 03 Renegade. Done a lot of small stuff to get the weight off. And set it up for my height. Anyways, I was on the mountain last week. Hittin some hard jumps, snow wasnt great. i looked down and my guages were out. Stoped and fiddled with um, sled still was runnin great so i kept goin, kinda wrkin my way back. stoped for a break. went to start er up, absolutely no spark. wrked with it and called i quits and headed home. figurd my magnito went out, and volt regulator. Im in the shop. figure i would try it one more time. fires rite up! guages wrk and everything. i bought the new parts already. kept playin and sometimes i had spark and sometimes not. i cheked the wires. they all looked fine. is the magnito goin out? im debating if i should jus risk it and put the new one in or if its something else so i can take to part back.

Sound like the same problem I was having. don't know for sure if mine is fixed but. My friend said it sound like a heat soak problem. Only did it after I turned off and sat for a minute. also mine would sputter a little at times. I pulled out my head lamp, and installed some vents in rear of panels. no problems last ride. It did it 1 or 2 times every ride before. Mine is an 04 rev

I let it set takes a wile to get er goin again. mine is the last of the zx. 03 was a good year too. from wut ive herd at least. i ride with a lot of older guys who have been goin since i was born and they cant figure it either.

Do they have tethers? My old summit would do that sometimes and if you fiddled with the tether it would help.. Also herd of killswitches shorting causeing issues like that, just a thought....

I have exactly the same problem and symptoms with my '07. After swapping a few parts with my '06 and checking some things, I surrendered and took it to the dealer tonight. I'll let you know what they come up with.

Check the yellow wires coming off the stator. Unplug them from the vehicle harness and check for any continuity to the engine ground with an ohmmeter. There should be no continuity, or a reading of OL (out of limits). If there is some continuity, chances are it won't have spark when it's cold and will when it's warm, as resistance decreases with temperature.
