03 570 Need help

I have a 2003 570 m cat fan cooled it was just rebuilt and it lasted 2 rides, O tore the top end off and found the pto piston looks like a ring broke and melted into the piston, then i noticed that the top ring gap was at the exhaust port is that where it should be???? looks like the bottom ring was there too. they were 2 new pistons and they both had br stamped on them and a punched dot and one, the piston on the pto side was in backwards as well does this matter???? any info or suggestions would be great thanks

Yes the rotation of the pistons is very important. Someone put the pistons in backward which is why you engine is tore up. Most likely you will have to replace both pistons and hone the cylinders. If you had somebody do this work for you, take it back. Don’t take it apart any farther.

Sorry - I am not that familiar with the arctic cat engines. Typically the piston has a mark that should be pointing towards the exhaust port. Some have the word "EXH" stamped on the top of the piston. If you are not experienced with putting engines together, have someone help you. At a minimum you should get a shop manual for your engine.

From the Cat pistons that I have messed with, they will usually have a pin in the ring groove. This is where the ring gap goes. The pin keeps the rings from rotating in the groove and catching on a port. Most rings have a top side and usually have a taper or a mark on the top of the ring. Hope this helps.
