02 summit 800 mods?

My buddy just got the sled last weekend for like 2800 bucks, good deal in my book. it is only a 144 so that is one thing for sure we are going to change.

What other things are a need to do mod on this sled(becides bar rizers!) I am a polaris guy and know a few things about this sled, but not a good as you guys.

Any info would be great.

I have heard that heads such as the RKtech ones are a pretty good mod to do for the sled along with a can. Also maybe a Boss or RM seat to loose some more weight and improve the ergos.

1.Toss the secondary in the garbage...I think Team makes a good Roller that bolts right up. I changed the Jackshaft and ran an Arctic Roller...2-4 sled lengths and way better tunability!
2. Get it ported!
2.5 Better heads..or you can have your heads shaved if you can find someone that knows how to do it right!
3. Hyperfax
4. Reedspacers(may be on 02's already) Better Reed cages(low priority)
5. Like you said...long track to 156
6. Rolled chaincase and drop down for better aproach angle
7. 10 tooth anti ratchet drivers!
8. Simmons Skis
9. Pipe and can
10. Fox Zero Comp shocks
11. Throw the stock mountain bar in the trash and get a semi rigid one
12. Rox grips on running boards
13. Extended range kit(gas can)
14. Snow Bungie
15. Avy Beacon,shovel and probe!
16. Big Wheel kit
17. VanAmberg Tunnel
After longer track is put on change top gear to a 19 if not already done..I think that came stock with a 21 this will all cost way more than the sled, but that was a steal at that price. I got 4500 for my 01 that was in perfect condition.

I would put a slp port kit, forget what they call it. Buddy has it and that sled really rocks and reliable. comes with a can, pipe, barrels, pistons, I thinks its about 1,800.00 but for your dollar its worth it. I will do it to mine one of these days

My 02

I have done this over the last few years...the 02 don't have hooded needle jets and mine hesitated bad when pinned wide open, a set from CPI, comes with adjustable needles, you can then drop 7-8 main jet sizes down. Kit is around 100.00...RKT drop in piston kit, comes with heads and a re flash of your mpem box, WAY better engine power at a very reasonably priced kit. I have a skid from a 04 AC 1M 159 with big wheels, very nice upgrade, I bought mine used for 400.00 Simmons skis, HPG shocks. Six inch pivot riser on the bar. Git rid of the stock thermostat and block off your return hose. Boysen reeds when your stock reeds fail. I run a 19 - 45 gears, works great. Go to a 151-16 track, set your skid back in the tunnel to take up the extra length. Theres some minor work up in the front of the tunnel but well worth it. Antirachet drivers. Pull the rope and enjoy! Dino

have the same sled. put 151x16x2,used ski-doo rail extensions,4inch riserand rk tek 827.sled works great.have noticed members saying the 827 is for repairs any info on why would great.

A simple and cheap improvement for these sleds are reed spacers. The stock reed cages extend into the transfer ports of the jugs blocking and restricting air flow.

Just so happens i have a set i'd sell ya. 40 bucks to your door. i was going to put them on but installed VFIII's. (this also cures the problem but much more money)

PM me if you want a list of stuff i've done to mine. been through nearly everything on it and have a lot of info on the 02's. i'm also in the UP so setups would certainly be similiar.

Replace the heavy seat, pull the sway bar if he's off trail, pull the bogies and put on scrathers, build a cloth hood, find a way to lighten the suspension.

From what i understand if you put the VF's on you do not need the spacers. I know some guys run them both. The VF's will space the reeds out of the transfer ports

Might need rebuild on motor before 2000 miles

I go the 04 ported rev 16w x 151 track, and VE drop down brackets on my 02 800. shaved the head, new pistons with 2 rings, can slp, JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE CLUTCH set right. I finally got mine setup and you can have all the power and track in the world and if you don't have that clutch just right you are wasting power and gas. It rips now. I might name it the REV eater
