I have an 02 700 rmk that will not pull past 7000 or so have checked exhaust valves and clutches does not pull at altitude or here at my house around 1000ft going to try to lift it off the ground and see what happens ..Could this be a bad cdi?? is there anyway to test these? Any other ideas as to what is causing this?

Have you taken the clutches apart? Cleaned the carbs? When did this problem start? Old fuel in the tank? Checked for collapsed fuel line? Doesn't sound like cdi. They usually just quit.

had the clutches apart last year and rebuilt probably have 3 rides on them problem started at the end of last season then found a cracked cylinder rebuilt motor thought the problem was probably fixed rode it couple weeks ago still had problem back to the shop found an exhaust bellow that had a slight hole in it replaced that and took it out today still the same

Agreed. Clutching or jetting. Have you changed anything lately? Cracked spring in the primary? Would not be the 1st new spring to break.

the only thing i have changed is the main jets when i rebuilt the motor it looked as if it was dangerously lean went up 2 sizes on the mains that didnt change a thing Have the secondary apart on my floor right now feels a little sticky to me clutch setup is almond round in primary with 62 gram weights secondary is yellow erlandson with 52/34s helix, buttons where new 2 rides ago spring is in the 3rd hole.. origanally thought maybe it was weighted to heavy as this is basically the same clutch setup i have on my 03 800 I may be wrong in this but the rpms should change with altitude if it were weights and it pulls the same at 6000ft as it does at 1000ft also tied it up off the ground and it pulled up to 8250 with a slight hesitation at about 7250 wich is somewhere close to the point it wont go past if your riding it

your clutching sounds fine my brothers stock 02 700 runs 60 grams up to 9000 ft with no problems. however at the beginning of the season he was low on rpms also and his problem turned out to be bad motor mounts. dont know if its your issue but its another idea. other than that the only thing i can think of is what the others say clutches or jetting.

one other question on the secondary what will happen if the preload is chaged say from hole 3 to hole 2 or hole 4

twisting the spring tighter in the secondary will increase your rpm about about 100 and make it backshift quicker. Still think you cracked/broke that almond spring in the primary. I've seen that too many times. That is if your sled used to run well and then all of a sudden you are now having problems without changing anything else.

thanks for all the good info rebuilt the secondary again and its running better straight run on a country road got it to pull about 8 will check primary spring.. Taking it to the hills tomorrow to see what happens
Thanks again
