wifes truck started fine today took kids to school. she tried to go to work and it died. it would idele rough, but the sec you give it gas it will die. new fuel filter at 70,000 and truck has 95,000. i think it may be fuel pump. i banged on the tank and it ran good for 10 secs.

It is colder then snot here in MN, could it be possible that there is water in the fuel lines. I would try dumping some heet into the tank and see if that helps.

i threw in a bottle of iso this morning. pushed it in the garage tonite and we will see in the morning

I have an 02 and the same thing happened to it. I thought it was the fuel pump but it was not. I have a bad memory I think it was the cam sensor or something like that. I will try to find the paperwork. It is something common that happened in that year. What motor is in it? The local repair shop ran a test and found it pretty fast. It think it ended up being cheaper than the fuel pump because you have to pull the gas tank to get to the pump.

it has the 5.3 cam position sensor i think that it is called.

5.3's didnt have cam sensor problems, just the 8100's. the earlier ones had
fuel pressure reg problems. if it is an early one pull the vacc. line off the reg on fuel rail. see if its wet, but then again the General make some goooood fuel pumps. damn they made me a ton of $$$$$$$$. Does it have a oiled cotton air filter? (K&N?) was it recently cleaned and reoiled? if it saturated the maf i have seen this concern. too much oil is not good. ck eng light on?
just my .02

no check engine light on. just a regular fram filter new last year. it did run fine for a 1/2 minute when 1 banged the bottom of the gas tank.

The big problem with the 8.1's was actually the crank position sensor. I experienced this first hand. Truck would cut out like crazy...die, and then fire right back up. or sometimes not start at all....come back 5 minutes later and it would run fine. new sensor was about $80. I am not saying that this is your problem with the 5.3, but something to think about. most likely a fuel problem.

engine light or no engine light you should be able to pull some sort of code from it. Most places including autozone will do that for free.

Wife had a 02 with fuel pump problems, there was a short in the fuel pump that would cause it to blow fuses. She always ran the thing to empty before refueling it not good on the pump. Sounds to me like you are having fuel reg problems. A scanner might pick up fuel pressure, can't remember if you need a seperate gauge or not to check fuel pressure on those.

Gm has Lots of fuel pump problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Part Is the owners problem Theose filters should be changes every 12000 Miles Min. I replace 15 + pumps a month and I bet 80% have plugged filters..... If you use a lab scope and A low amp probe you can see The waveforms and the amp draw a good pump will draw 1-1.5 amps per 10 lbs of pressure. Thanks Gm for building such POS cars and trucks.......

I really dont think its a freeze up as all the gas in Minnesota has at least 5% ethnol, I really can remember selling a Bottle of heet in the last few years. In the last few days I bet I have changes 20 diesel fuel filters in My area There seems to be a Bunch or bad winter fuel.

truck is 55 degrees and still wouldn't run. it fired and ran rough for a short time. i will check some more tonight. are the off brand fuel pumps any good. i think i will get one from advance auto parts for $250. gm wants $550 and a fu cking govt bailout..
