Does anyone know the body # of the carb thats supposed to be on this sled? I've been wrestling with this sled for quite some time now and cant make it run right. The sled came out of colorado with the dpm pulled off, 310 mains, 15 pilots, and a 9dfh2-59 needle. I put dpm back on, and re jetted to stock 02. sounds like crap. cant get it over 7000rpm. Any ideas and/or thoughts appreciated!

02 carbs

I have a set of carbs off a 02 800 that I'll dig out and look at the mains & pilot jets and needle and carb number for you.

Are ALL the dpm hose tight? if they are loose, they are sucking air and the dpm wont work.

Also check to see that the choke arms are not hanging up. even thought the lever is down or off the cable can be bad inside the sheath and or the arms could be sticking

what shape are the reeds in? Are the rave valves clean, set and working? someone cut the threads off of the gullitines on one of our sleds and we were chasing our tails for 3 years now. finally noticed it. if these are not attached, they can possibly hit the rings causing other internal problems.

I checked all that and looked fine. What is procedure for setting the raves?

Thanks

Josh

I would take them apart and clean them for starters. you can remove the wire over the black cap on the bellows. the cap will probably pop up due to a spring under it.

There are two cap screws to remove. Be careful not to rip the gasket while pulling the housing out. depending on if they have ever been cleaned, they may be stuck pretty good, but they will pull out. the guillotine will unscrew out of the bellows. I take mine to a wire wheel to clean up. pay attention to the hole on the bottom of the bellows and where it lines up on the cylinder along with the guillotine marked top before reinstalling.

Clean up the cylinder throat with a phillips screw driver and a rag with some carb cleaner. be careful not to hit the piston or damage the throat. vaccum out any crud that falls to the bottom or on top of the piston.

in regard to setting the rave, the red center cap is threaded. unscrew it until it is flush with the top of the black cap.

Setup sounds alot like mine when I sent them to Xtreme Perf. in Colorado several years back to get rid of the junk 02 carb/DPM setup. Jets are same, is vented to the air box, Jack Harris PowerJets to compensate for elevation/temp.
The last thing you want is a set of 02 carbs and dpm to replace it, if you can't get it tuned, pickup the carb/dpm setup off of an 03 800HO, they put hooded needle jets back in those carbs, motor ran good.

Yup, just pulled out paperwork from Xtreme Perf. carb rebuild, that's their setup. Needle position #2,fuel screws 2 turns out, needles are adjustible versus stock non-adj, to lean in mid-range, setup is for 8-10k ft. put hose barbs in your airbox and hook vent lines to airbox, plug rest of dpm lines on carbs, was riding mine once and one of the vent hoses fell off the carb, ran richer than he!! on that cyl., found hose hanging, put it back on carb and off we went. Couldn't believe how it wouldn't run with that vent line sensing atmospheric pressure instead of air box pressure.
If you put stock dpm back on, which was calibrated to rich fron the start and you put stock jets back in, you are way to rich.
I would recomend staying with what you had and rejetting for lower alt. if you're riding it in S.D., maybe fatten up the fuel screws, but make sure your DPM lines are plugged and float bowls are vented to the airbox. Check your carb boots for delamination or cracking, any sign of this at all, get rid of them and pick up a set of V-force or Boysen Reeds with their boots, mine cost me a few top ends, didn't look like they were leaking but they had come unglued from the alum. flange and were sucking extra air by.
Mines had this setup since Oct. of 03.
