02 800 carbs on a 01 800?

try it out and see if it works, i cant see much differents between the 800 01 carbs and the 900 04 carbs buddys of mine have pretty much the same sled one with a bigger bore i dont see any problems IMO

02 carb setup sukked bad, get the 03 carbs, they fixed the 03. Put in hooded needle jets, got rid of the 520n jets and lean mid-range cond., better throttle response. Cost me $300+ for the Xteme Perf. carb fix for the 02 to make it run right.

I assume to see if the carbs are "hooded" I would just need to open the throttle and look into them... I have an extra set off the replacement motor I bought (and the original poster was considering buying them). If a person were to switch to the hooded style, what jetting specs would you go with, the 03 non-HO jetting specs? Since the 02 is not an HO motor?

sledhed, did you click on the xtreme-perf. link posted above by v@ilguy?
I would start with the 03 carbs jetting, and adj. accordingly, buy a set of Jack Harris Powerjets, someone else is selling these brass needle valve powerjets also, can't remember who. Ask around these forums.

Dang that's alot of cash for that fix. I got mine fixed for about $100. A set of 40mm rounds off ebay.

I did check out that link. Sounds like a lot of work to make the change... My 2002 ZX 800 summit without the hooded needle jets really gives me no runability problems at all. Very snappy and does great in the trees and powder carving and climbing. Elevation might be a factor though, don't generally ride over 8000 feet. So definitely not worth going through all that for me.

The originator of this thread was thinking of buying my spare set of 02 carbs off of me for $100. I am pretty sure they would be the same as what he is running now, so they should not introduce any new problems. He has not contacted me back yet, oh well.

Searching for jetting info on the 02 ZX 800 and ran across this thread again. I opened up my carbs and found 470 PTO and 460 Mag, stock non-adjustable needles with the nylon washer under the clip (to raise it). Everything stock except for the can (already had that on it) and now VF3 reeds added. DPM etc. all hooked up still.
