01 dodge cummins fuel pressure ?...what r u getting?

You need a new diesel mech, starving your VP44 will kill it. You could drive along and have no idea your low fuel pressure, then your P pump takes a shat, some guys even replace the p pump only to have it go out again.

Don't mess with a weak lift pump get a new one on there. FASS or other electric pumps are spendy and not needed unless your highly modded.

I think you meant to say VP pump everywhere you said p pump... ;-)

I have a 2002 and it has the juice with attitude setup on it from Edge. It has 4 inch exhaust and a K&N intake on it. I've had this setup on it for 5 years. I had to have the lift pump replaced 3 years ago and they did the update on it at that time where they move the lift pump from the side of the motor into the tank. Before the new pump my fuel pressure was at 14 psi at idle and never dropped below 5-6 psi. After the new pump install my fuel pressure at idle is at 10 psi and drops right down to 3 psi during heavy throttle. I went to a guy here who specializes in building up Dodges cause I was worried as well. He told me to set my fuel pressure alarm down to 1 psi and run it, he said if you have fuel pressure you are not starving the injection pump. That was 3 years and probably 60,000 miles ago and so far he was right. This thing is not babied either, in winter I pull a 4 place enclosed and in summer I pull a 29' holiday trailer.

So the mechanic I spoke to is full of sh#t? Am I running a time bomb and just been lucky so far? It sounds like I should get my lift pumped changed out ASAP. I am running the juice with attitude, 4 inch exhaust and K&N intake. I have no idea what kind of HP I'm making, but what do you guys think I need for a lift pump?

Thanks;
Shane

You over valved guys just wish you were running a p pump.

not too hard to p-pump it.lol. btw racin cajun, I would seriously reconsider putting just the fass pump on. if you can hold out for a little longer fass is releasing a cheaper air separation unit. retail is around 445 and you should be able to have one for 400 or under.then you can eliminate the factory fuel filter assembly and you won't be changing filters every 10,000 miles.

Fass has a new air separation unit coming out, It's an Airdog with a new sticker :D Fass and Airdog is a family rivalry between father and son, The son stole the father design before it was perfected and ran with it and started Fass. The father's re design is the Airdog, which have a lifetime warranty on the entire pump, wiring and brackets.

I still change my filters every other oil change, 14,000 miles and drain the water separator once a month. I had a rubber grommet crack on the top of my draw straw, called the guys at Airdog, and they overnighted me a new one, no questions asked!

ya, the only thing charlie did right away was use a quieter pump.the design of both is very simple and both are nearly identical on the inside(installed both fass and an air dog). they both draw the fuel from the bottom of the filter to get rid of air...the fass and airdog both sound about the same when comparing new models. fass can have coolant pumped through it, which is nice when you live in very cold climates.air dog doesn't have that option.

The older Fass pumps sound like garbage disposal with rocks in it, the coolent line sounds interseting tho? For other model trucks that don't have a fuel heater.

a couple stockers that were about a year old.shows how much the pump works trying to pull fuel from such a distance while operating near a 200 degree motor.its obvious which one had no fuel pressure...the other one had the same symptoms as yours. the owner remidied it quick and 25,000 miles later not even a hickup. just some food for thought.
