01 800 rmk not Running Right

tookmy sled out of storage filled it up with fresh gas, put fresh plugs in started it up let it warm up, took it out was a little hessitant at first but cleaned up nicely run really good for like half mile, looked down and saw temp light on, shut it off threw some snow on the exchangers, checked the coolant level, drove it back home thing wouldn't run past 5-6K it was just like cutting out, brought it home checked the plugs a little wet not bad, cleaned off, nothing, it starts fine a idles smooth, what should i check?

I've had both temp sensor not working and water pump belt broken. Sled will run normal with the belt on there...you'll get full RPMs and won't know it's broken...until it burns down.

I'd guess it would be the temp sensor. It will run REALLY loaded up and sound REALLY crappy. 5-6k RPMs is about your limit. That's my guess on your problem.

BTW, I believe it's a 10mm socket on the waterpump belt...and you'd better use a ratchet with about a 4" extension.

Treemongrol....you got away with one. I hit send before I clicked on the negative rep. You accidently got positive for that one ya weiner. LOL

alright I stop by the shop and grab sensor tomo, I'll check the water pump belt as well, when it wasn't running worth a **** the temp light wasn't on, but when i shut it off and put snow on the rear exchanger it really wasn't that warm, but I'll give that a whirl and pull the bowls and make sure everything is ok there as well, thanks guys

x4 here. huge problem on 01. One more thing if it isnt any of the above, my 01 drove me insane 1/2 a season. Turned out the nut that holds the water pump impeller on the shaft backed off and the plastic impeller got stripped out. Air in the system is possible too

Most likely the water temp sensor. You'll know this if you can start the sled cold and it still won't run up rpms. If the belt or pump is gone, it should run ok for a minute of so until the water gets hot, then the temp sensor kicks in the rpm reduction.
Not a bad idea to replace the impellar and belt as PM anyway, did mine on the 01 at 2500 mi just for insurance.
I alwyas kept the old parts and a spare temp sender on the sled.
