01' 800 Electrical Problem

01' Summit X HMK(check sig line+Boyesen reeds), after I had the motor out, I have had an electrical issue. Sometimes, like 1 in every 5 rides, it acts like it has a rev limiter at 3k rpm, acted the same when a buddy put a piece of paper under the DESS key as a joke, but it does not read that there is a key issue(no light on dash and it has come on before so I know it works!)

It won't let the motor above engagement, and any throttle just loads the pipe and it backfires. Then you can flip the handwarmers on and off, mess with the hi-low beams and it will take off and run like a champ! It also seems like it only does it when it has been run pretty hard(top of a pull, hard run down the trail...)

I thought I fixed it with a new DESS key last year and adding another ground strap. The only thing I am missing is a taillight. Could it be "overloading" the MPEM system because of no draw? I've been fighting this for 2 years now and the local Ski-doo dealer has been less than helpful, so ANY opinions would be WELCOME! Thanks!

mine does the same thing. once a year I have to get a new key. it runs fine then all of a sudden it will start missing and shut off. starts right back up and won't rev past 3k. let it sit for a while and starts up and runs good for a while. it always happens when we're out in the back country at cooke. get a new key made and runs fine for a season. nobody can figure it out.:beer;:beer;

A new key every year? Holy crap, that's $55 a year! I would like to find out what is causing it, because it should NOT be doing that! But it is nice to know that someone else is having the same problem! Thanks.

Ive seen this happen and it ended up being the trigger coil or some call it the pick up coil. But it just failed it never got better But it would start and run but wouldnt get above engagment and it would pop and backfire.

That's what it does but it only does it a couple of times a year? I will look into this though because you are not the first person who has told me this! Thanks for the help! Any other opinions?
