01 800 Compression

I have a 01 800 with less than 1000 miles on it. Engine runs like new. Compression test shows 115 on PTO side, and 112 on MAG side. Is this good or bad. I'm trying to sell this sled, so if it needs engine work I want to get started on it right away.

I have an 2001 800x and compression is 130psi per cylinder ,sled has 2700 miles ,did you also check the skidoo service bulletin about the piston skirts cracking ,also did you hold throttle slides completely open it does make a difference last look into intake and exhaust port for the rings chrome flakeing hope this helps its about $600.00 give or take for new top end rebuild .OEM parts .

rings- a well known problem on the earlier 800's.

Let the sled warm up for a few minutes and then recheck the compression. If you are checking it on a motor that has been sitting all summer, I would expect a lower than normal reading since there is probably no oil on the cylinder walls or rings. If you get the same low readings than double check with another gauge before dumping money into the sled if it is running good. I had a gauge that notoriously read low but I was able to compare it to another gauge with higher readings. So once I got a baseline reading, I knew if my compression was dropping off or not.

The first test I did was a cold test after sitting all summer, I then started it and let it run for about 8 minutes. After that the reading went down about 2 psi, so it got a little worse. I did try it with the throttle open, made no difference. Thanx guys for all your input, it looks to me like I'm gonna have to do a top end.

Mine were about 110 when I replaced the top end. One piston skirt was cracked and about ready to grenade. Was close. I got 115 psi with new top end but my gauge is reading a little low. 1800' elevation.

Sled runs good.
