I’m trying to find the trail’s from Elk Heights or the Taneum snow parks over to Whistlin Jack’s can anyone give me some help on road's or trials numbers to take.
From Taneum: 3330 to Buck Meadows area, Tri-Pod, Devils Slide and down the hill the last 11 miles......That's one option....there are many ways to get there...Milk Pond might be a few miles shorter, just more turns to explain......
From Elk Heights to the 3330, head down Cedar Creek to Taneum Rd
Sno-Park Map Manastash: Take 1st right on 1701 (Barber Springs Road) off Manastash Road. Follow all the way over past Bald Mountain onto Canteen Flats. Just before you get to Canteen Flats (long flat straight area) take a hard right onto FR1720. In 4.9 miles, take another right onto FR1721/1722/1705. This is where you'll actually have to go back UP and West across Gold Creek towards Devils Slide (see maps) and then back DOWN onto Spring Creek to drop onto the Jack. This adds about 10 wasted miles!
The issue is that we have to circumvent BALD MTN all the way around to DEVILS SLIDE via forest roads. Too bad snowmobiles can't fly!! I'm going to see if I can connect the two forest roads together this summer. At any rate, it's about 38 miles via snowmobiles, all on groomed trails. Just make sure Spring Creek above the Jack is open. Call Ranger and check Spring Creek grooming map/reports. They were logging in there heavy last year and the road was thrashed.
You can cut out all that trip to Rock Creek etc. real easy.
When you get to the back side of Bald Mt. either go up the back Of Bald Mt. to the 530 or continue around to the south side and take the 530 where it meets the 1701.
When on top of the ridge on the 530 (Summit Trail) continue down to the big meadow on top, on the west end of the meadow is the connecting trail to take you to Gold Cr. Rd. There is even a Sign that says "Winstlin Jacks" at the trail head. The trail takes you down a road and then through the trees on a jeep trail. You are now directly above Devils Slide Lake on the ridge.
This trail drops you down on 1703 (Gold Cr.)
Follow this road to the intersection with 1705 (Spring Cr.). Heading down go right. Now it's straight to WJ's!
It's an easy trip, I've taken wives and kids on many times. Well traveled so by now it should be a highway.
Go to Google Maps and look at the satelite image of the area. It's an obvious route.
And they are not logging Spring Cr. this year that I know of so it should be good.
They were logging the Bald Mt. road down low last time I was up there.
Was fine last time I was up there a couple weeks ago. Just waiting for some fresh white stuff now!
