All of Scenic Safaris’ 40 guides are trained as Wilderness First Responders.
Smith also ticked off a few points or criteria to help a sledder determine if he should be out in the backcountry without a guide. Those include:
- You can change a snowmobile belt by yourself.
- You can read a trail/topo map.
- You carry food and water.
- If someone in your group makes “a poor decision” and wrecks his sled, you can get him and/or the sled out of the backcountry.
It’s obvious there are lots of things to consider when making the decision to trailer or rent once you get to your sledding spot in the West. When we head out on a trip, depending on the distance, we take our own sled or get one when we arrive at our riding spot. But we never go riding without someone who knows the area to show us around.
